While out with friends last Friday night at a club I couldn't help but notice a man dancing merrily by himself. Nothing unusual in that; however he was performing all manner of ballroom moves. He fluidly lead his invisible partner into New Yorkers in Cha Cha, performed a dip in the Rumba and did some nice Bota Fogas in the Samba. Practice makes perfect I suppose.
Has anyone here danced alone (practiced) in a club environment performing all of the steps as you would if you had a partner?

I thought you were going to add--then he sat down at a table and bought his imaginary friend a drink....

That's a hoot! Over here in Japan, the "virtual" moves of anything are practiced more than the actual sport itself and one often sees guys practicing their golf swings while waiting for the train. One day I noticed something pretty odd- a guy practicing his SWIMMING stokes!
Although I often see people practicing ballroom solo(both men & women) at the dance studio,I saw one old guy practicing the other day IN THE PARKING LOT of a supermarket. He was strolling around, arms aloft, doing some sort of waltz, while his unsuspecting wife was busy selecting groceries!!!

 looks like everyone is taking "funny pills" with their breakfast this morning

I have danced solo  not for a whole evening but at times, when "sitting out a dance", I will merrily dance with myself to the full extent that one could  (triple spins/back flips without a partner look a bit odd, even by my standards  ) With some songs, I love/feel them so much, I prefer to dance them by myself (unless I know my partner can keep up  ) otherwise, I do end dancing as if I am alone and miss my partner's leads

I know one dude who is always dancing crazily and alone. Granted he does ask people to dance but he's one those uncontrollable animals. He needs a female animal trainer to keep him in line!! Seriously! Firmness of a follow to say, "no", "tame that down", "don't do that or I leave now".

I've don't really dance alone in a club, unless I'm doing shines, and even then it isn't that much. I go to the clubs to dance with people. I practice by myself waiting in lines, at the bus-stop, at home, in dance studios....I think that's enough.

This isn't about dancing by yourself, but it's a story about eccentric-looking behavior and dancing!

I've only been dancing at my current studio for about eight months, and when I first started only my teacher really knew me. There are two rooms to dance in--the larger front room, and the smaller back room. I had just taken a private, and was waiting for my friend who'd scheduled a private right after me.

I decided to take the hour to try to get off book for a show I was doing, a monologue show. So I was sitting quietly at one of the tables going over my lines, occasionally gesturing. Another teacher, who didn't know me, was working with a student on Latin motion, and caught sight of me in the mirror.

She waited about seven or eight minutes and then, I caught her eye, she walked cautiously up to me with a big deliberate smile on her face and said, like she'd talk a four-year-old whose brain had been transplanted into the body of a massive gorilla, "Are you talking to yourself?"

I burst out laughing and said, "I just finished a lesson, and I'm waiting for my friend. I'm an actor, sweetie, I'm trying to memorize my lines!"

Anne Marie later told me she was relieved to hear me tell her that, since at first she didn't know whether she'd have to call the police....

There was a rather "large" individual dancing by himself the other day at the local salsa club. Sorta reminded me of a latino version of Michael Clarke Duncan.

I let him be...

LOL...  we were waiting for it to happen but he seemed to disappear and re-appear later when there was another dance he wanted to perform.
