My partner and I are planning to do a Tango together in a larger dance showcase, and are having difficulties finding a non-Argentine tango piece. We're looking for something a little more on the modern side, and preferably with a more passionate feel than mellow. Any music recommendations would be much appreciated!

They're not selling CDs at your local dance shop?

Two different show dances (one of mine, and one for a couple pros) to tango de roxanne, and two to cell block tango, make me a fan of those two. :)

Ah but pascal, with our wonderful members, perhaps we might be able to recommend something that will narrow down a wide field and work nicely without ucdneo having to waste precious resources, such as cash?

The "Local Dance Shop" in my area is over three hours away...

I'm a fan of Danny Malando's tangos. Very instrumental (think orchestral) updates of the classics, as well as some newer stuff.

My fave is 'Libertango' and "Tango Atlantico". First one is instrumental only, while the second one has vocals. Keep in mind that they are International tempo (meaning fast).

Roxanne should not just be trimmed, but if you want first two measures of plucking guitar string in there (think it's guitar :) ), mirror the right channel to left and probably want to rraise the volume too. It's very quiet, and only on one channel, so took that method myself. Came up with a good cut though right around 2:14 or something I think, which fit in well for the 2:30 time limit we had. Unlike other cuts i've done for some of pros at stagekat's studio, worst of which had to trim beginning, end, cut two sections out of middle (and merge the three pieces together), and then still increase the tempo a bit. Ironically, was another tango. :)

I prefer scary/aggressive sounding tangos.. (totally lame description I know...) Tango de Roxanne is a prime example of this. It just adds to the dance. Unfortunately don't know the names of the ones they play at my studio...

I Did a tango/foxtrot showcase last year to a piece from Cirque De Soleil's Quidam called Seisouso. I had to cut it quite a bit but it turned out to be rather nice....
