If you could personalise your car licence plate (that is if you haven't already got one  ), what would it be and why?

Hmm. I've been thinking about this one. I'm shopping for a new car, and, of course, must have a new license plate.
Something involving dance, of course.
Jenny Dancer?
Jenny Can Dance?
Dance with me?
And How to fit it all into the seven digits allowed? Don't know.
BTW, back in the day, I used to have a specialty plate, JNZA10. Get it? Jenn's a ten. That was back in the day, before I was bothered with pesky notions of humility and the like.

The license on my '69 Z-28 says: GR84PLA . . . and that's a very double-meaning vanity plate!

We don't get letters in Japan!!!!!
Mine is personalized and is 59-63 which is a play on words
"gokurosan", meaning "You done well!" (I always thank people with this & it's one of my favorite Japanese expressions!)
I am going to buy a BMW, and imports are twice as much as in the states or Europe. Taxes and a semi-annual "inspection"(=tax!!!) total like $1500 a year, which is totally foolish!!! My new plates will most likely read "43-08"(yosan-obaa or "Over Budget") :(

Yup, cocdrilo. I've heard that in some countries, cars are so expensive that many people can't afford one at all. Singapore is one of those places, if I'm not mistaken. The taxes are extreme.

YES, Pygmalion! A 10-year permit to own a car can cost up to US$75,000, sales & import taxes(195% too the cost of buying a car), a car owner might have to pay over US $250,000 for a car a permit! I also heard that one cannot keep a car for longer than the 10-year permit allows but that there are exceptions for classic cars. I have visited Singapore quite a few times and let me tell you it is CLEAN! They're fine-happy, though- and you can get fined heavily for littering, smoking(almost no public smoking! :D ) and chewing gum. No gum is even SOLD there!

Okay. So I'm moving to a new state and getting a new life and a new car. Can a specialty license plate be far behind? Thoughts, anyone?
I'm looking for combinations of four or fewer digits that spell out something dance-related. Any NY Times puzzle afficionados in the house?

Well, there's also the far more generic "DNCE" and, I guess "SWNG" could work too, or, for the more enlightened "SLSA"

10-28-2004, 09:20 PM
Hmm. I was assuming seven digits total. I'd better find out how many are allowed on a Texas plate, before I start seriously planning.
SLSA (Some variant of ) SISTA could work. I'd need SSTA at a minimum.

imports are twice as much as in the states or Europe.
Imports are a killer! Here, the taxes on imports are often the same as the purchase price of the car, so it doubles the value of the car. It is so strange to see a Ford pickup driving around, it's all polished to a glistening shine, and it is the equivalent of seeing a foreign luxury car on the road in the States. It's bizarre.

I've been driving sports cars most of my life and my last car was an Audi(LOVED it!) and now I've got a sporty little VW Golf. In 18 months, when my car is up again for inspection, I'm going to go for another German car. Time for another treat! 8)

Since we can't have letters on the plates in Japan and we are only allowed four numerals, with a dash beteen, like this 12-34, which is hardly any fun at all, we have to rely on a play on words. My current plate reads "59-63"
which can read "Gokuro-san!" which means "Ya done good!" (or "You've worked very hard.") I've already got my next one figured out when I buy my new car 18 months down the line, heh heh...(Of course I'll post it when I get it)

Jenn,
go to google and bring up a DMV for a state (other than texas), CA is a good one. Most states list a book that has registered licenses. Use this to get some good ideas for "YOUR" vanity plate!
A few ideas . . .
BLRMDNC
SWNGWME
LV2SWNG (live or love) . .
And in answer to those on the first page that you wrote out:
JNEDNCR
JNCNDNC
DNCEWME
I know lots of guys who take color-matched 1/4 tape and place it between letters to make a - or a / . . .

In Germany we unfortunately don't have personalized plate, but at the moment there is some talk about introducing them. The current system starts with 1-3 letters which represent your town then comes a space 2 or three more letters another space and 1 to 4 nummers. Usually people try to get initials and a number with some meaning for them. I have my initials and month and year of birth at the moment. But when they introduce the personalized ones i'm going to get salsera.
I gots friends who have "WTVFQ" on their M3.

Get it early. It's surprising how similarly people think. Back when I was young and foolish, I had a personaized plate. I think I got my fourth choice of letter combinations. All the others were already taken. :(
