I'm still very new, so please  me in the right direction if something like this has already been asked.
I was just wondering if maybe someone here could help me figure out what kind of dance might you do to Beethoven's Love Story? There's about a million and one reasons why I want to dance to this, and I just was wondering if there actually is a ballroom dance you could do to this music.
Any help would be really wonderful!!!
If you don't know/have the song, IM me on AIM and I'll send it to you.

Beethoven's Love Story? Do you know the record label and catalog number for the recording?
natasha

Hmm you know, now I'm not sure that's what the song is called... I have a music box that plays it and I found and MP3 of the song, but I can't find anything about it on Google. I'll keep trying... maybe something will show up.

I'd need context too... I didn't think Beethoven wrote "Love Story." :) What album? I'd otherwise say if you can find a way to link the clip up somewhere, or find a link to a clip...
Otherwise, AIM me with it. Hopefully I'll be online.

Is it theme music from "Immortal Beloved," the movie about Beethoven's secret love affair?
Here's a listing of the music from that soundtrack -- all classical pieces, written by Beethoven.

And, btw, amazon.com has the soundtrack and audio samples of a few pieces from the soundtrack. 8)

I doubt it's the soundtrack. I'm trying to find the score for the music of Immortal Beloved. I cannot tell if there is such an album. (There is More Immortal Beloved, which is just more Beethoven.)

Yes, you're probably right. I saw the movie when it was out (almost ten years ago! ) and all I can remember is a sort of brooding adagio being played -- a Beethoven composition, for sure. I don't know who composed the incidental music, or if there was a non-Beethoven composed love theme. Just figured that movie might be a good place to start. Beethoven and love all in the same place.

I've only seen the movie once. It's not Amadeus (though frankly nothing compares to Amadeus in this particular genre except The Red Violin in my opinion). I don't remember any incidental music if there was that much in there. I just remember a lot of Beethoven that I recall from orchestra concerts.
That being said... Immortal Beloved is probably third or fourth in the list of classical-music-based movies. I like it as much as I would Shine, Hillary and Jackie, and I'm withholding judgement until I finally see The Pianist.

I was disappointed by Immortal Beloved, to be honest. The music was stellar, of course. I thought the plot was a bit weak. And yes, there was only one Amadeus. 8)

A "brooding adagio." Oooooooooo! That would be rather different from a light allegro or a thundering vivace.  8)

Adagio in the sense of a specific musical composition (i.e. Adagio for Strings) not a description of the music's tempo, silly.

Ok, so I had enough webpace available to put this up on my server. Here's the link:
Beethoven - Love Story (MP3) (http://users.wpi.edu/~natasha/Beethoven_-_Love_Story.mp3)
I'll keep it up there for a few days, but then I'll probably take it down to save the limited space I am alotted.

The theme to the movie "Love Story" is based on a Beethoven piece? I always thought it was like Henry Mancini or someone.
Anyway--Bolero. Have to be.

I'm curious now. That's the theme song from Love Story, the early seventies (or was it late sixties) sappy tear jerker. Did Beethoven write that? Must google.
I'd do a (very slow) bolero or a NC2S to it, btw.

Nice use of the italian GR!! :D
I am wondering if it is the Moonlight Sonata which is a very slow brooding Adagio??? Personally I think you could waltz to it as it has a 1 2 3 feel. However the time signature indicates 2 beats per measure. FYI if you waltz to it, it will be a very LOOONNNNGGGGG waltz. This piece is a bit lengthy. If this is the piece you are thinking of, others on the dance forum might know what other dances could be done. Waltz was the only one I could feel. Oh oh maybe even Viennese Waltz. I hope I spelled that right! :D

The Love Story composer was Francis Lai, born 1932 in Nice, France. There was no mention of Beethoven in the write-up of the soundtrack CD. *shrug*

Yeah... I was looking for covers of "Love Story" done Beethoven-style.
I'd agree with the opinions of my colleagues. NC2S/Bolero. Or a damn good piece for a figure skating short routine.

my abbrev for night-club two-step... which I have described (as I am quite ignorant of the differences)... it's like Bolero with a country twang, which is like a slow American-style samba... oh whatever.
I was hoping it was an orchestration of Fur Elise, which is a waltz.
P.S. Damn, this thread exploded!

The piece in the MP3 is the Theme from Love Story (Francis Lai), "Where Do I Begin".
Beethoven composed his Moonlight Sonata as a love song for a flame of his (how many of us can do *that*???). There is particularly touching rendition of this, good Viennese material if you can snag the beat, as "Mal di Luna" (moonsickness?) by Summer. Hear a piece of it here:

Rock step, like in ECS? I was told that on the step of the rock step one moves forward and so it shouldn't be called a rock step. :?

Here's a link that shares your terminology, Sagitta, although I know many, many people who do rock. (Oddly enough, I know lots of people who do a four-count hustle, too. *shudder* )
Interesting that this link specifically cautions people not to rock step. Must be a common fault.
http://www.swingcraze.com/ussds/Hustle/hustle.html#3CountHustle
Anyway, to answer your question, I'm talking about the back-forward replace that happens on the &1 of a three-count hustle. Yuck. I do a coaster step there, and stay forward poised. I wish other people did as well. 8)

04-24-2004, 12:37 PM
Wow! That's really a good link, now that I read through at greater depth. It has the only written explanation I've seen (and a good one, at that) of why hustle isn't considered a swing dance (accent pattern of the music 8) .)
It also has some pretty clear explanations/comparisons of the various types of hustle. And, incidentally, at least one of the authors states that the &1 of a three-count hustle can be a rock step or a coaster step. Just for the record (opinionated Jenn speaking now LOL) if you can't keep your weight forward, please don't rock!

If you are talking about the song that starts with Beethoven's symphony no. 5 and has two guys rapping in French and Spanish, it's Dame Cinco by French band Mambomania. This song is veeeeery popular here -- everybody goes wild when it comes on!
