I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I was rather disgusted with some of the results at Ohio. Does anyone agree with me?

I was not there, but was surprised by all results in almost every category.

I felt some of the results in the pros were quite questionable, but it was the pro/ams that really got me. Usually I love watching these categories, but this time the A latin and standard really disappointed me. I mean, it seems like everybody from the B categories have decided to call themselves A again, so it's really rare to see any young people in the scholarships go as far as the semis. So, for me, personally, it's not even interesting anymore to go and watch. How does everybody else feel?

I was surprised at some of the results, but not having been there and seen the dances, don't feel I have any right to be disgusted with any of them.

I would think the Pro/Am Bs are dancing in the A divisions to have more competition and maybe to have a chance to get more floor time (by dancing by A and B). I don't think the Bs have an unfair advantage.

So...wait. The 36-50s are beating the 18-35s?

As someone in the 36-50 age category, I find that r*e*freshing.

Mind you, I am several ability categories below competing in the open scholarship, but it's nice to know that there is hope.

Well, I was in the schollarship (world championship) C and after seeing my tape I have no question that I for one received the correct result ;) and I think that the winner was also correct - the rest I'm not sure about. While I'm quite good I think at judging pro or am comps I find pro/am very hard - the pro is always so debonaire, polished and comfortable while the am generally not quite so I don't know where to start to select the top couples.

I'm not surprised at MY results--well, mildly peeved at Smooth but otherwise I don't think anything was horribly off.

I do know I heard a few complaints about some people being in categories where they did not belong (though not knowing the people in question I don't know). As far as dancing down to A for competition--I would think it's to get AWAY from it, as A1 especially is never crowded.

I believe you can only enter one age division at OSB. And I have noticed that a number of the Open B ladies that routinely entered and won the A , are now more often entering their actual age division. At least at the larger comps. It's really not that unusual for a 51 or 51+ lady to beat the 18-50 year olds. There are several who routinely do it!

I certainly have no problem with people going down an age bracket for more competititon. I've gone up a level brack at our closed competitions (from intermediate bronze to full bronze).

Well, did everyone here dance in catagory - the correct age and and the same level as they usually do?

If they are eligible for the category, and they dance better than the other people in the category, then they *should* win it.

I don't understand the problem honestly.

Am of the same mind. Who cares if older ladies are dancing down...

Although I will say that in the A standard championship we were surprised by some of the placements. But well...it happens.

I dance wherever my pros put me. One of them apparently felt I could do intermediate and full bronze in Rhythm where I did pre-bronze for everything else. So that's what I danced. It's up to them, really.

As for age, I'm A1. I don't really have a choice.

No, the first and second placements in Smooth A went to 20 somethings, only third placement went to a B who danced A. Places 4,5, and 6 are As.

I believe Latin A also was won by a young man who is clearly not a B. All others in the final were As with the possible exception of 2nd place.... I am not sure how old she is.

Yeah doi, those of us in attractor age brackets are stuck where we are for age.

I applaud the older ladies and gentlemen that have reached a level in their dancing such that they feel they should dance an age category down to dance against better dancers in that category. What an accomplishment!

It also allows the student to continue pushing their own learning by increasing the standard of measurement.

Be r*e*freshed - its true.

Not necessarily in every category and not necessarily in the same category year after year - they can and do move around.

Some of the surprising events they move in and out of are 9-Dance and 10-Dance where I don't believe they are split into age categories. Sample the 9-Dance results and you'll find 4 B's, 1 C, and a junior were quite successful(including the top couple positions), and one of those Bs might actually be another true C ;).

The oldsters don't always just camp out in one division/style - some of the best move around after winning or placing in the final for a couple years - onto other styles, in and out of categories . . .

As I was told by one of my friends back when I was the youngest professor at my college "The good thing about that is it won't last."

LOL, you mean because colleges won't be hiring much?

I guess on the flip side, I'll never be anywhere CLOSE to the oldest person at the college because that big glut of Baby Boomers who came before me will NEVER retire the way things are going! (Insert dark, sardonic sound somewhere between a chuckle and an exhale of breath here...because it sure isn't a lol situation.)

reb and Larinda--Thanks for the clarification. I'll take people in my general age bracket making the final! It makes me smile.

Is no one going to say what Pro results they are surprised about/not satisfied with? It would be interesting to know what you all are thinking.

Well unhappy with our local pros that didn't make it to finals in rising star. Doesn't mean judging was bad, just means I wanted all three couples to place. :) And since that's not any valid judgement on the placing/judging, won't give names.
