whats your views......

Is this strip dancing an art in itself or is it merely someone taking off their clothes for a bunch of old horny lonely men?

If its considered a valid type of dance.....should we have dance classes specialising in strip dancing :)

Whats the people got to say

Ha! Monsour, didn't you know? There are strip dancing classes and videos out there -- have been for some time now. I think I posted something about it recently -- a gym in my town teaches lap dancing and a couple other erotic dance/exercise classes.

Other than the ads, I don't know much about it. For opinions, take a look at this older thread. That's a nice, long discussion. 8)

Oh, and by the way, did you ever find those light-up shoes?

I say pole work is an art. The rest of it is nothing I can't see in any hip-hop club.

The French cultural critic Rolands Barthes did an interesting interpretation of the strip tease in Mythologies.

Why not?

It can be, but it can be more than that. I don't think lonely men are the only ones who could enjoy stripping. Personally I think I'd consider it more fun than erotic (what's erotic tends to change with age, for examnple I can easily find Argentine Tango much more erotic than grinding) though. But I haven't seen it live since I was eighteen or something. :-)

Of course it's dancing. And of course there should be classes for the interested. If a 'serious' studio should have classes, that would be up to the studio, I guess.

I've been to a variety of strip bars and clubs and I am not a old horny lonely man. (Actually, I'm a woman)

FWIW, it really depends a lot on the type of establishment you visit and on the type of dancer you see. Some of the ladies look at it like an art form and thus treat it as such. Some of them just grind around like crazy horny people for a buck.

As for the whole "pole" thing...well...on my last trip to Las Vegas I visited two of the most exclusive and upscale strip clubs. At the Paradise Club, the main stage doesn't even have a pole, it is shaped like a modeling catwalk. Many of the girls are extremely athletic. I witnessed one girl do a back flip (walkover type thing) in a pair of 6 inch stilettos with a one inch platform. Needless to say, I was very impressed.

At the other club, the name excapes me at the moment, there were 5 or 6 small individual stages that were round and placed thoughout the building. Not a pole in sight. Again, the ladies were able to do a lot more then grind around.

Anyway, that is just my two cents. :D

Don't laugh...but I can imput on this subject.

I have attended only one strip club in my entire life. I was with a Russian model friend of mine who is married but happens to like strip clubs. Mostly because, she is SO beautiful...the men pay more attention to the clothed HER than they do the half naked chicks in stilettos. There WAS a pole involved at the end of a long catwalk.

Some of the girls were only so-so (to be interpreted, 'humpin' a pole, humpin' a pole, humpin' the stage, look at my boobs, humpin' the stage). But there were a few girls that were so good, I was sure they had dance and gymnastics training. One chick did a back walkover straight into a split and the proceeded to a straddle split before wriggling back into dance. I was impressed (even while peeping between through my fingers in mock-horror).

So...I'd say some of it takes some talent. Anyone can get a boob job (but me, I wouldn't lower myself)...but it takes some skill to show off the boob job. ;)

Hmm... good point. I think Pygmalion needs a pole to practice ripples/body rolls we talk about ... (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=3391) ;)

  Hehe! First, I need an audience (boyfriend) who cares! LOL. Maybe I'll go check out those lap dancing courses just in case I meet somebody at the Sunshine State Championships later this month. Hmmm. Think I'll log out and call the exercise/dance studio.

If you post a video clip of you practicing, I'm sure you can get a lot of feedback... 8)

Meanwhile, back to using a rope/tie attached to a doorknob for me to practice my lindy sailor step...

A belt on the doorknob works for WCS. Thanks, Michael. 8)

It's easy enough to take off your clothes looking uncoordinated and dorky - I imagine that it would take a lot of practice to actually look attractive doing it . . . (c'mon - who hasn't ever tried to be sexy and ended up looking/feeling like an idiot?) And we all complain about having to wax and tan for competitions - imagine that every day! Sheesh - way to much trouble if you ask me . . . guess "stripper" isn't my calling.

Ahem.

On that subject, always remove the "special" tape from the camcorder before giving it to someone to tape your daughter's wedding. You never know if they might try to make sure the tape is blank before recording...

I think its both....

The dancing of course is an art, Id imagine they would have to put in long hard hours just like any other dancer or athlete.
However I do think that the same level or perhaps even a higher level of sexiness can be achieved with clothes on.
You know they saying "Leave something to the imagination" . Im a big believer in that.

I guess it also depends a lot on your perception of the human body. Some people think of it as merely an object, some value it with high morals.
Im kinda inbetween all that.
I am not ashamed of my body however I dont think that I could share it with strange men every night. I think that takes either a great deal of self respect or a great lack of it.
