Perhaps this deserves a separate thread...[it does so I started a new one for you waltzguy - latingal]
When y'all practice at home, do you wear your dance shoes, or socks, or what?
I cannot seem to practice at home because I don't want to scratch up my little bit of hardwood with shoes. Wearing socks and practicing hurts my feet in no time!
Not to mention that I'm a Standard guy and don't have enough space to do all the progression that I'm capable of. :p

I wear ballet (type_ slippers with suede soles - they let me practise anytime I feel like it, be it on the hardwood or the tile....

Socks or shearling slippers. I wear crew socks, so I don't have a problem with feet hurting.
That said, I don't really have space to practice at home - just enough to explore ideas on how to approach a particular step or transition.

usually ballroom shoes, sometimes black supa teaching/practice shoes
Flip flops a lot of the time. Not something I'd recommend though. Usually socks. Need to start actually putting shoes on.

you seriously practise at home? Do you have your own studio too that I can be totally jealous of? ;)

practise in flip flops? sounds like a fast route to a twisted ankle... I can hardly walk in the things let alone dance :|

I often use my regular old competition shoes...but if my feet are very very sore or I want to focus on how I am using them, I will put on my bloch jazz slippers

I wear my practice shoes. And yes, I do leave marks on the floor. But I don't care.

Same TTD. Heck, I'm Busy looking at blank wall in dining room and considering how it would look with mirrors, andn comapring it to whether it'd be better to sacrifice guest room and put up mirros there (and have to get rid of the carpet. :) )

This is exactly why I do not practice at home. Because after I practice at my studio, I look at their floor, and there's diagonal lines all over their beautiful floor. :(
The primary culprit has to do with heel leads in Standard/Smooth. Just kills the floor.
Well, as least I know I'm doing DC and DW ballroom alignment correctly. :D

LOVE my dance sneakers...when I'm at home, I'll even wear them to practice in the garage!

Will dance sneakers cause skid lines on a hardwood floor?
Perhaps it's time to get my third pair of dance footwear.

IME, nope. I've worn them on all different kinds of floors (including hardwood at socials) and had no problems. For me, they're more comfortable than heels if I'm going to be dancing for a long period of time.

I also have a pair of Capezio jazz shoes with a shorter heel and suede sole that I use most of the time for practice in both latin and standard and for socials ...my comp shoes were getting beat up really fast. Now I don't have to change shoes if I'm going to be switching styles several times.
I wear ballet slipper type slippers :-) We have slate and I can't stand it on bear feet

If my feet are really hurting or something, I'll use my dance sneakers or just socks, otherwise, I use my normal competition shoes.

One room I dance in has a large parquet floor. One day I was there for practice and noticed a multitude of little spiral swirl marks on the floor. Turned out there had been a Salsa dance there the night before. Wish I'd taken a photo ;-)

I don't care for them...they don't slide well and they are so bulky that it is hard to know what my feet are up to
