I guess it is true. I found an article on people.com and they are discussing it here (http://www.dance-forums.com/showthread.php?t=30463&page=3)

I hope you don't mind, I did take Katarzyna's advice and change the title of the thread. I almost missed this, because I assumed by the title it was something else. My first thought was maybe it was a video of a collision on the floor where a girl was lucky not to get body checked, and I was like "Yes! I've got to SEE THIS!!!" :)

Max is better then Mario Lopez.. My opinion :P hehehe
But great for them!

Larinda McRaven

Bella

That's the way they spelled it in the DanceBeat email. But, I do understand the confusion that stem from the spelling. Thanks Larinda for the correction!

However i must say im a bit "jellaous" when 2 dancers start a relationship. Must be amazing to date/be ingaged/be married to another dancer.. Especially to dance together when the feelings you have are for real and there is no acting etc...

My boyfriend is not a dancer, and will never be and have absolutely no clue how to dance.. So i never experienced how it is to actually dance for example a Rumba with a person you actually love and have strong feelings for... I guess Karina and Maks knows :) Wish them all the best!

Heh, have some friends who are married and dance together professionally. Love the chemistry they're able to bring to the floor. That being said, definitely makes life more stressful too. As another set of friends who were formerly married and formerly competitive pro partners can attest to. Live with the person, work with them, compete with them, doesn't give you much time to yourself.

to true, thats a good point.
however it feels that a dancer can never experienced the chemistry and magic of for example Rumba 100% if the dancers dont have any real "love"feelings for eachother...
i mean you can fake it till 99%, but you can never get the real 100% chemistry...

Bella

99% is pretty close though :) But, I can see your perspective.

that OR it could become JUST work for them as well. LOL

I have seen both sides with dance/relationship partnerships.

Maks and Karina don't dance together (and never have) though and, at this point, I doubt they will...

They do exhibition numbers together on DWTS.

Does it only count if there are judges around, and not if there are merely millions of tv viewers? ;)

"A very lucky lady". At least that title got DanceMentor's attention, right? lol

I'll bet there is still acting.

It's not like most people in love spend the majority of their time together spontaneously gazing at each other with unadulterated love/lust transparent on their faces.

The coy, flirtatious look you cast across the table during dessert IRL implying that there might be one more course to go after this one might not be transparent enough to be visible to an audience member sitting several rows away.

Well competition and result-oriented dancing can add a very stressful element into a relationship. I am not saying it's guaranteed but it's a possibility. That's all I was saying. Karina's relationship didn't do so well the last time she was dancing competitively with her SO.

I met my dance partner through a dance forum in England and our chemistry was instant. People were blown away by our rumba which had previously been my least favourite dance, but it was the chemistry that sold it. We finally realised our partnership was about more than dancing and we are getting married in May!

So I think the chemistry can be there even if it isn't acknowledged as anything other than a dancing emotion. I do also think though that there can be an attraction between a couple in a dance partnership which is not taken any further romantically. I am sure that could be very powerful on the dancefloor.

Dansa, you are right to be envious of couples who dance together who are also in a relationship - when it works it is fantastic. On the other hand, it could be awful if things were not going well ...

"Dancing with the Stars" performers Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff decided to make it an extra special New Year's Eve by getting engaged. A source tells ET the engagement happened as the couple took a break from the "Dancing with the Stars" winter tour, which both are performing in. The two had been dating for several months and are both due to participate in the eighth season of "Dancing with the Stars," set to debut March 9 on ABC.

You're both ignoring how long they've known each other, which certainly makes a difference.

In any case, however, we do not encourage speculation into dancers' personal lives on DF, so hopefully this will be respected by all.
