That sounds cool. Do you have it on video? Is it in one of Usher's music videos? If so, which one?

Is it the one for Yeah! -- the video with Ludacris?

hola MR..

i'm not sure exactly what u mean but i think you are refering to one of the glides which can go backward (moonwalk) sideways and forward basically.. well in any direction u want i guess..

if its what i'm thinking of.. then in my experience i learnt them a long time ago during my breakdancing days in the early to mid 80's .. what i did was get videos teaching breakdance where they broke the moves down bit by bit and in slow motion .. without it it would have taken much longer.. so i would advise u to do the same b/c its almost impossible to explain this kind of glide in words.. u have to be shown .. but basically it would involve alot of weight shifting from toe to heel where one foot glides towards the other in a certain combination of toe/heel shift while the sole of the feet is as close as possible to the ground.. and kind of passes the motion to the waiting foot and then the process is repeated again and again giving the effect of gliding or walking on air.. very smooth and i still do them in my salsa.. goodluck! :D

Thanks, Sabor. Do you have any specific suggestions for that type of video? I think I've seen the moon walk done sideways and it looked pretty cool. I already do it backward and clock-wise. I've done it in West Coast Swing, but how do you put it in your Salsa?

To the beat/rhythm of the music, just like other dances!! :P

I have seen the video, and thought to myself . . . "that looks cool."

Then went out to the dance floor to try it . . . . NO WAY.

Like Neil, I can go backwards and clockwise and have also put it in my WCs, but that sideways is difficult to say the least. The ankles just do not roll, toe-to-heel, in that direction!

It's best seen in the 'U make me wanna' video bout half way through.
I can moonwalk backwards with no problem.
I think my problem is that both ankles are doing a lot at the same time which confuses me somewhat!!

I really wanna learn this damnit! ;)

There's a movie of Johnny & Becky doing it as part of Lindy. It can be downloaded free from allswing.org (Aspet 2003). Can't post a link though, you have to register (still free) to get access.

Me thinks that the first you need to do is get basic moonwalking down, then it should be easier.

I've tried googling for both airwalking and moonwalking in order to find other video clips. No luck though.

Yeah. His moves are pretty unique, which makes me wonder if you might be bumping up against some physical limitations here. And how old was he when he made that video? 15? 16? Young and flexible. Might be hard to duplicate. Do you know if there are hip hop classes available near you? A hip hop teacher might be able to help. *shrug*

Somewhere on this DF, there is or used to be a video called "poppin and lockin."

I watched that video over and over. I studied both of the two kid's feet and ankles, and this is how I learned to moonwalk clockwise, but I still cannot go sideways. My ankles do not go that way . . . maybe Jenn is correct about the "age thing."

Anyone still "see" this video on the DF??? It may be a 'dead' one by now!

Are you referring to this: poppin' and lockin' (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=3441&highlight=poppin+lockin)

Its called gliding. It has nothing to do with age its all technique. It just requires practice.

Traveling left- Stand with all your weight on the ball of the right foot (heel in the air facing left, toe facing right). Keeping the left foot parallel to the floor (the toe faces left) lower the right heel to the floor (in a nice controlled manner) move the left foot to the left. Place the ball of the left foot down about shoulder width and raise the left heel, transfer your weight on the left foot. Turn your feet in (left foot rotates on the ball right on the heel) lower your left heel as you draw the right foot in parallel to the floor. As the right toe begins to pass the left toe raise the right heel and turn both feet out and transfer weight to the ball of the right foot.
Just keep doing this to continue to travel. Reverse the order to change directions.

You may want to break it down more just work on the lowering of the heel and moving the foot while parallel to the floor and the smooth transfer of weight. Add the turning of the feet/ankles when you have the first part under control.

Good luck, doing this from writing is going to be tricky, but if you watch a number of videos and have this to help you along you might be able to make it work.

I just came back from a dance class that Darrin Henson taught. DarrinsDanceGrooves.com When he was fooling around he did that sideways moonwalk. I asked him about it and he said it's called the glide. He suggested I look into an instructional video by Mr. Wiggles. I think I will. It looked sooo cool when Darrin did it. He said that the key to making it look cool is to practice it enough that you can keep your body very relaxed. All the pressure should be in your feet.

Woah!!! Just downloaded the video mentioned. That stuff was amazing!

He does a kind of similar move towards the end. The glide to his left is what i'm talking about.

Amazing video though! :) :0

Don't go to the forums, but click on 'Videos' in the left menu called 'Allswing's menu' on the main page. Log in and search from there.

OK, here's the place to go for an instructional video on this step. Mr. Wiggles is the man to go to for it. It's his step. I couldn't find a free video clip of that step on the site, but he has a free preview of his "Wiggles Walk" step that's pretty cool. http://w w w.mrwiggleshiphop.net/wiggles_videosbe.htm

For the $25 instructional video, scroll down to the Floating and Gliding video on this page: mrwiggleshiphop.net/wiggles_videos.htm I already ordered one of those for myself. While I was there, I picked up a couple other videos too. I couldn't find them on Amazon.com.

MR WIGGLES SESSIONS #2
FLOATING and GLIDING

Based on Mr Wiggles practice sessions, This video features Wiggles executing his famous FLOATING and GLIDING techniques, plus WALKS, SLIDES, KNEE SLIDES, and a breakdown of the famous WIGGLE WALK as he did in Missy Elliot's "work it" video.
