I signed up to do a cha cha using music from a broadway show for a showcase routine. Now I need to find the music! Know any good broadway cha chas? This is harder than I thought it would be.
Best I can do so far is Mamma Mia.

Try looking under songs in Chicago and Fosse.

Try Whatever Lola Wants, from the musical Damn Yankees. Sarah Vaughn did a version which was remixed (Verve Remixed), and Della Reese did a slower version on her album Della Della Cha Cha Cha.
Good choice sambagirl! I saw Eugene and Maria do a Cha Cha show dance to that song.

Hmmmm. I signed up to do 2 showcase routines: one cha cha, one tango. I was going to use "Whatever Lola Wants" for the tango -- the Sarah Vaughn version.
Now I am really confused.

Could do tango de roxanne for the tango if you wanted. What I chose for our broadway themed showcase (though ended up not having it ready in time).

Lola is a great choice, either way.

Thank you for the input! I was not aware Moulin Rouge was also a broadway musical. This really improves my options.
What do you think of Diamond Dogs & Lady Marmalade?
Also I found the quicker version of Sarah Vaughn's Lola.
Thank you again. I have spent hours on the net looking for that cha cha.

I don't think it technically is, Katnip, but several people chose songs from Moulin rouge. It's just such a great show/soundtrack. :)

Hmmm, how about Hernando's Hideaway from Pajama Game for tango?

Moulin Rouge was definitely never a Broadway production. Try the Internet Broadway Database if you need to check any other movies to see if they were derived from Broadway shows.

You could try the "Broadway Goes Latin" album by Tony Evans and his orchestra. There are a few Broadway tunes arranged in cha cha style there. It's available on iTunes.
Also --
"Tea for Two" from No No Nanette on the Mambo Kings;
"Summertime" from Porgy and Bess on Ultimate Latin Album 7;
"I Talk to the Trees from Paint Your Wagon on Ultimate Latin Album 8;
"My Heart Belongs To Daddy" from Cole Porter's Leave it to Me on Latin Mix 3
Good luck!!! If I think of anymore, I'll let you know!

Best in my opinion in terms of a funky cha cha from broadway is the cover of "Hound Dog" from "Smokey Joe's Cafe"

Good luck!

I've partied with this cast :)
Great song; Great suggestion!

Yes, forgot about this! It is not corny like some of the re-do's of the old Broadway numbers! Great suggestion!

I know we're talking about cha cha and tango here but "On my own" from Les Mis would be a sweet rumba.

Great!
I now have two options:
1: Lola for cha cha, Hernando's Hideaway for Tango.
or
2: Lola for Tango and Hound Dog for cha cha (loved the youtube)
I will pass the rumba suggestion along.
Thanks again!
