Jessup, Maryland get a popular Baravian dance hall back from the developers.
Story (http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/wayoflife/03/16/blobs.park.lives.again/index.html)
Blob Hall, opened in 1933 and closed in 2007, reopened after developers decided not to ravage the structure to start a new housing development in these times of slow economic growth.
Some silver lining in every cloud.

Is the place safe now or is it just waiting for the times to turn around again...
Safe until the economy turns and the Ft. Meade BRAC starts cranking.

Well, the article said they have a three year lease, so they get a few more years. The gentleman behind the dancehall is hoping to continue for at least 10 years, but Joe's right, it seems only a matter of time before the developers pull the plug yet again.

Keep thinking it should be possible to have both... housing built around (or in a city, over or under) a dance space...

I know a LOT of dancers that'd pay for apartment/condo in same building as their studio. heck, I know dancer's who'd put air mattress in our studio as is if it just had a shower. :)

you leave your studio? bizzare concept...
More decent floors I say, but dancers are not good drinks of alcohol and most of these places dont survivie without charging for Alcohol. So yes most places are community halls, well wishing them a long stint :-)
