Yes, there is a movie being made and it is featuring two pros. Myself and John Nymcheck (Current Judge, Coach, Yankee Classic Organizer, Former 10-Dance Champion, and Former NDCA Vice President)

The film crew was up here a few weeks ago following me around and getting interviews from my students, filming Isabelle, and watching me teach (I was suddenly too self conscious to actually yell at the students though!). Just kinda seeing about the life of a teacher/competitior/dancer. It should air sometime this summer. We will have to get a group of people to come out for the screening in NYC this summer!

They need more footage of me so they heading over to TriState and will be there with me on Friday and Saturday. I believe they were also at Heritage and Florida over the past few weeks getting lots of good comp shots.

I'm still asleep.

I have to stop trying to do these things on four hours of sleep.

On the plus side: my brother did not mind being dragged around. And I have a new Smooth/Standard dress! (I'll post in the Ads section about the old one.)

thanks; I actually did better in another event, but it's not posted there :(

I had a great time chatting with Nik last night; I'm sure his students are very lucky to have him as a teacher. He's very enthusiastic. We discussed spines at length (pun intended), and of course had to discuss l/r brain stuff.

The floor was slippery; I did a volta slide at one point. Tried to pretend it was intentional. I saw others that were having problems, too.

I was too tired to stay up to see the finals in pro standard, rhthym and amateur latin. Again I noticed a pretty immediate collision in QS in the Am standard. I keep thinking it's a sign for me to stay away from standard altogether.

For a rather inexpensive Marriott, it was a pretty decent hotel. A fair amount of restaurant selections in the area.

It was good to see all the df'ers there...cantski won his event and was very modest about it.

JANATHOME

Reading the program there were 14 couples, a Quarter final. We did not stay on for the week-end so I cant say how the results went.

According to Dancebeat the standard was won by Igor Litvinov and Julia Ivleva, 2nd place went to Anton Lebedev & Anna Borsch, 3rd place, Greg Fidurski & Gabriela Jileva. This is all they gave for pro standard results.

I have to say, the Closed scholarships were rather...light. There were three of us in Closed Bronze Smooth A and TWO of us in Rhythm. I mean, yay guaranteed money, but still.

And I honestly didn't think the floor was that slippery, but my Latin shoes *were* new.

I think it was more around the periphery of the floor (at least for me), so maybe if you tended to stay in the middle or thereabouts it was a little more worn in? Don't know. I only slipped once, but know that there were others that had some issues.

I found the floor inconsistent and that is harder to deal with than simply being fast, because you don't know from step to step how much pressure to apply and how hard to work your legs.

In any case, I found it only mildly annoying and it simply made me pay closer attention to the weight distribution over my feet, something that I am happy to have a reminder of once in awhile lest I get too lazy or overly confident.

CCM there is a video of their Austin Powers routine floating around somewhere from MD Dancesport Comp.

etp777
03-22-2009, 07:08 PM
I saw that routine at St Louis, and really liked it. Tons of fun, and they did a great job with it. Definitely dig up the video, or even better, try to catch it at a comp. :)

Man! I saw them at Eastern (in Feb), but had to miss Maryland...and St. Louis isn't really on my radar. Maybe they will do it at Philly? I'm pretty sure that they are based in PA.

Pennsylvania is my understanding, yeah. So they should definitely be hitting some comp that would be accessible to you.

Your site is plenty easy to navigate; thanks. But I cannot open any of your videos. I'm on a Mac, using Firefox and/or Safari, and I can't even open them in Windows Media Player.

Any advice?

Sorry! I just tried again, for the first time in a while, and they opened fine.

My bad for not checking first. Thanks for having them -- I foresee a long day of catching up on comp videos. But first, back to work updating my own website.

mamboqueen

I think the navigation is fine, too, Chris. Although I would say it is easier to find what I'm looking for on dancesizzle the way it is categorized (pro, am, pro/am), but I understand that the photos have to be done differently since you're posting them "real time" and thus they need to be put in day order. It's just that we don't always know what events are on what day, but really....not meant as a complaint...just me being lazy. I very much appreciate the photo/video service you provide.

chrisjohnston
03-25-2009, 12:49 PM
Good observation. We could actually try to put them up in the same format as Dancesizzle and see what people think. Maybe we will try it at Detroit this week-end.Thanks for the input.
