We've had threads on getting compliments...I want specifics now! What compliment do you get MOST often about your dancing?

The best is
"I feel safe dancing with you".

Along those lines, from beginners....a smile splitting their face and saying thanks, and I know it is heartfelt as I controled myself and did not once push them through any moves where they could feel off balance or flustered, and each move was firmly and gently suggested.
Non verbal.....The slight extra long hold after a dance and the look: it was so good, and now it is over.

ok ya'll know about the whole 'sassy hips' thing  The only other compliment I get nearly as much is about how they enjoy my smile during the dance.

No one ever calls me Sassy Hips!
Seriously though, the one compliment I receive all the time is about my frame (good, strong frame), and my leading. Like "hey, those 5 moves you know were lead really well!"
Its like when I used to play Jazz: "Boy, you've got some heart and a soulful sound to your sax...you just need to learn how to play more than 3 notes!"  :P

What I hear the most is: I wanna have your babies!
Seriously, I don't know. Beginners seem to appricate my lead. More experienced dancers expect a good lead, so the comment differ. The most common comment is maybe the very common 'it was fun.' And that's true, cause that's what it is.... fun. Doesn't sound terribly exciting, I know. Guess you had to be there.

Most often I'm complimented on my lead, which is great, and I do consider it one of my strong points,
and, though usually in combination with certain partners, I sometimes get compliments that my dancing looks good/is great to look at, but this one always confuses me a little, I have never seen myself dance and just can't imagine how I appear on the dancefloor. This weekend however i've been filmed for a few dances and should get a copy in a while, so I can take a look at myself, i'm thinking it will be quite a shock, hopefully a pleasant one. :?
And the best non-verbal compliment I occasionally get is when after a dance a girl just gives me a big old hug :D  :D
The compliment I hear most often is "you've gotten so much better."

I've been hearing this about my WCS which I started learning three months ago.
I generally get compliments about my leading.

Speaking of compliments, I received the strangest one ever last night. After a very wild set of dances with a fiery young Salsera, this other lady looked over at me and nodded, and asked me to dance. She then said "you know, you're the best dancer here tonight," and I was like "no way, I'm one of the worst, trust me!" She kept on about it and I still think she was on some kind of drugs or something...or perhaps that since it was very early in the evening she hadn't seen any of the really good dancers yet?
Either way...that's the first time anyone has said that to me...my ego wishes it were true but in my heart I know that its not... :?

I get:
Its really fun dancing with you.
I like your lead, you aren't muscling me around a lot.
I will have to thank my instructor, she wants me to lead but not rip her arms off doing it.
I also don't do a lot of moves social dancing, since I dance with so many women, I would rather do the very standard patterns well rather than throw in a lot of obscure patterns that ruin the flow of the dance. Some have told me that they like that so that the dance is fun without having to try so hard. They would rather concentrate on where they could put an extra spin, arm movement or sexy flash. So instead of trying to do a lot of new fancy moves, we make fewer moves look good. I will try to throw in more advanced moves if I know the dancer can handle it. Even in social dance, it is about making the woman look good.

SG ... Pacion says in her deepest, most gravest voice. Take the compliment and RUN! In your mind's eye, why do you think the "really good dancers" are "the really good dancers"? Because they have been dancing longer than you? They know more moves than you do? Because they can do a triple back flip and land on their big toe? Listen up honey, personally, if you were dancing from the heart/soul that makes you the best dancer in the room. ANYONE can lead me into a CBL BLT* but if they can give me the seasoning/spice to go with or instead of, I will take the seasoning/spice ad run to the door with it too
* yes, I did mean BLT as in Bacon Lettuce Tomato
So! What do you have to say for yourself now?   :D

Sassy hips, sassy hips, la la la la la la. *prances around* ;-)
Compliments on my dancing ...
They're usually pretty general -- "You look great out there; would you dance with me?" or "I was watching you two dance and you have perfect rhythm together" ... or "Ay mamacita!"
LOL!

Being primarily a competitive dancer, my comments are usually from people in the audience. My favorite one that I get is usually "I love watching you two dance - you just look like you LOVE it!"

We're going to have to work on that self-esteem of yours.
Someone just paid you a compliment . . . take it for what it was!
At least you don't have some s**thead still stepping in and taking your women . . . you with a MA background and all! You need to handle the situation, and he shouldn't be bumping into you and sneering. I've also been told to turn the other cheek, but there ar etimes when someone just needs smacked!
A compliment is a compliment is a compliment . . . let it go to your head if need be . . . it can improve your mental well-being, as well as your dancing abilities!

That's true - thinking of yourself as a good dancer can go far towards making you a good dancer (just be careful not to get egoistic!)
I once was playing under a conductor who made a big point of thinking like this. He said something to the point of your body will do its best to live up to what you expect of it. If you think of yourself as having the best sound in the world, your sound will be better than you thought it could be. If you think you sound bad, you will sound worse than usual. The same thing applies to dancing - confidence can go a long way towards making yourself into what you want to be!
Sorry to be wandering off topic, just had to comment!
