You know what's funny? When I go looking for DF topics, answers, you name it, I go to the web first, if not exclusively. When I go looking for dance venues, teachers, or events, same thing. Web first, and usually, only. Yet I know many a dance studio and venue where the teachers or proprietors have no clue how to log on, much less create a web page. :?
So here's a question. What's the relationship between dance and the web? Is the web changing the dance world? How? For better or for worse? And are some people/teachers/studios/dancers getting left behind? Or are there some things that will always remain the same?
What is dance going to look like in an electronic environment, perhaps five or ten or twenty years down the line? How will that differ from today? What can dance service providers do to be prepared, or better, proactive?
Speculation welcome. :D

The web is the way to go for dance. I find about most events through email listservs and websites. And many of the younger generation, such as mine and younger will be doing the same. It is teh older people who don't really do this. Anyway, I'm working on a dance calendar for my area as I get questions often enough about different types of dances in my area and there isn't one such comprehensive resource. My contribution to popularizing dance.
(Now wandering off-topic I was dance host at the last social dance event and have been invited to become a member of the ithaca social dance group. :D )

I started a subject a little while ago where I asked people to submit links to video clips of their favourite dances (styles). Only two people provided links.
To me this indicates that dancers are not very web/technology-oriented. Cause if they were, there should be a lot of cool and exciting clips out there and people loving to show them to those who are interested.

Dancers are not web-oriented... unless they work in a related field and/or have websites... I noticed that many dancers also work in IT... and/or have some sort of martial arts training :)

Check and check!
(Damn, I'm nothing but a cliché )
Seriously, on a discussion board on the web, the probability of finding IT people should be slightly higher than elsewhere. (That, and single moms )

Maybe folks missed that particular thread. There are quite a few clips in various threads in the websites forum. Maybe there are some things there that would interest you. Check it out. :D
