Tangoette Arm Styling

Hi,

What do you imagine when doing arm styling for tangoette.

I always imagine doing paquita ballet number (is that how it is spelled) ?

It is a bit spanish sharpness ...

I am trying not to JAB and not to look like I am throwing cricket ball.

My teacher told me the arm position for each step but I still dont get the overall feeling as you can do the same exact position and evoke 10 different feeling !

think more paso arms. There are no specific arms for it - Its a touchy feely sort of dance. Just make sure the movements are sharp right to the end of the fingertips. - mummsie

Thinking paso...good clue. I tend to think more of dancign a latin wrist action like in a sharp rumba or cha, and letting the arm do whatever it does.

Arms should also be a continuation of the lines and curves that your body is making throughout the routine. Experiment by letting your arms continue the action from your feet up through your body to your arms and hands.

This may lead to simplistic but convincing styling. :D

Tangoette is just poo!! :) I finds arms In it always look cheesy there isent much you can Do with it. Though I do like sharp synchronised head movements In it.

I find it hard to go from arms up to arms to the front in the first few steps without looking like I am trying to throw a ball LOL !!!

Thinking paso make sense though.

When I am extending my arms upwards I am thinking 'I am such a snotty pretty princess' then when extending my arms forward I am thinking about begging for some reason something like 'Please dont leave me I know I am annoying but....'

You can tell I am a hyper dramatic person cant you .... well maybe it was the years and years playing aurora ....

Your terminology is interesting :).. I have to say it is not my favorite dance, but if you can make it look good you can make any of the other New Vogue Tangos look great!

I have been told that you flick the arm (for the women that is) from the elbow/hand and not the whole arm, flick out and then up, but not back over your head keep it forward of your head.

Being a tango/latin specialist, I don't much like the dance either...hokey. But, it is what it is, and this post iterates my earlier intented, and is true for basically all dances.

New Vogue arm styling is very interpretive, especially at higher levels. lower levels must comply to what is set down in the hand book by Russ Hesketh and Neville Boyd. Even though they can use modern steps I find that New Vogue tango has a different feel and look IMO

When we dance our Tangoette, we try to think soft and subtle, then BANG!

But our La Bomba, we think Paso the whole time. Paso arm, paso shape....we even practise it to Paso music!
