I need some help DFites! And there is no better place to come for some creative idea than here
I have a fancy dress party to attend on the 29th of this month and I have no idea what to go as.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi ShyDancer!
A rule I always abide by- When in doubt, wear a TUX!
(Looks hot with black stretch jazz dance pants as I found out at a party in March, or even HOTTER with a black mini! Don't forget snazzy cummerbund!) :D

My approach is to identify yourself with a few famous characters to suit your looks and taste. Then prepared 'stock' costume for various occassions that does not have a specific theme.
For example, my 'stock' characters are Pocahontas & Queen of Swords (from the cable TV show). Oh, I nearly forgot about my angel outfit.....!

There is no theme....
I dont know what suits me salsachinita   depends on my current mood,
I briefly toyed with the idea of making myself a "plant" suit, ie gluing leaves onto green clothes and standing against the wall an telling people I was a creeper plant...but I dont think the fun would last too long!
Also thought about a sumo wrestler or a Moulin Rouge girl!
Angels, Fairys and fairytale characters are out as the host is going as cinderella and I dont want to go as something similar.

That just goes to show those good old cultural differences again, ShyDancer. When you said fancy dress, I was thinking black tie, not costume party. I guess it depends on which version of English you speak. Funny how these differences keep popping up. 8)

Moi, aussi, Pygmalion. At the "Fancy dress" parties I attend, no one dresses up in foliage!
Why don't you wear one of those sexy, revealing costumes used for latin dance competition and just go as a dancer? That way, you'd feel comfortable!

A sodden thought- why don't you go as a Hobbit? Check out the "Wax on wax off" thread to find the hairiest guy and borrow a patch of his chest hair that yuo could glue on your feet! I'm sure you'd be the life of the party(telling everyone it's REAL hair!!!!)!
Wear a tight fitting blue jump suit, with cotton balls attached all over it.
Bring a squirt bottle (set on "mist").
When someone asks you "what are you" you say "partly cloudy"
then you mist them with the bottle and say "with a chance of rain"

That's hilarious. Did you know the hobbit in LOTR had feet covered in individually applied YAK hairs? Ew! *shudder* Poor, innocent yaks sacrificed their hair for the sake of art. Makes me knid of misty eyed.

Great piece o' trivia, Pygmalion!
Yeah, I bet it smelled pretty bad- like YAK! Must've itched quite a bit, too!

I had a few friends, many years ago, when we were young and stupid, who came to a Halloween party dressed as sperm. White leotards and white face paint. It was pretty dumb, because no one could tell what they were supposed to be. Maybe they enjoyed having to explain themselves all night.
I guess you had to be there. We were a weird bunch. That's the same party where another couple of friends came as a park ranger and his "wildcat." That one ticked me off. She dressed as a tiger or something, and crawled around purring all night. Not a word out of her mouth. And she was on a leash. I would never have cooperated with that one ... unless I could be the park ranger.
