Apparently just announced at the E3 Games Conference (http://www.binarycraft.co.kr/040326/eng/xtango_eng.html):

XTango is not a rhythm matching game but an original and new type of game.

This game is a new-concepted sports dance game in which there are fantastic ballroom, music, and handsome and beautiful characters.

XTango is a couple game that collaborated 1 or 2 Players fight against computer couples. 1P is the leader in couple dance, he or she inputs next "step command" for dance motions, like as command input system of fighting games. Follower, 2P press the same "step command" right after. So, they make their own choreography and figure, earn points, and stage clear

Well, video game preferences differ dramatically between countries, and maybe there's a market for this in Korea... but I think some big honking weapons will need to be added to address the American market (check out the storyline (http://www.binarycraft.co.kr/040326/eng/xtango_story_eng.html)).

Same basic problem as with trying to get ballroom dancing into the Olympics, IMO: not enough violence to cater to jaded audiences expecting to see people blow out knees and tackle other players and so on.

   So true! *grins* Sorry; I just thought that was *reaaaally* funny...

You're probably right; maybe they'd admit it to the Olympics if they had an intermission with jesters pretending to waltz, and tripping all over themselves! =^_~=

In all honesty and seriousness; I really hope they admit dance to the Olympics soon! :D

 *blink blink* Now that I realize I totally *ignored* the original subject...

The game sounds really interesting acutally! It almost sounds just a *little* bit like DDR (Dance Dance Revolution; Google it, if you're not familiar, or head over to: www.ddrfreak.com) only without the phyisical part to it...

(Although wouldn't it be awesome if they had a dance game with Latin and Ballroom songs; and then you could choose a character, and how well you did your steps would be how well/how great the characters move/the moves are. Of course, that *would* be a version of DDR in itself... I must make a point to write to Konamix!!)

I hope we can get a *rare import version!* over here; 'cause that'd make me happy!! =^_^=

I was thinking more in the vein of combat ballroom dance, with the couples not only allowed but expected to interefere with each other. Perhaps there could be goals at each end of the court, er, floor, and points for dancing through the goals.

Hmm... Then would the sequins on dresses be shuriken (throwing stars) in disguise?! I don't even want to *think* about all of the "James Bond" possibilities for the Mens' outfits! I shall leave *that* job up to MI-5, and "Q"!

Maybe they show the blood types in the character profiles to be ready for the American version, so that they know what blood to give your character when he/she bleeds in the violent edition.

I get a kick out of how much skill it takes to master some of these games; enough to have probably started becoming proficient in the "real thing," if you took dance/instrument lessons instead of spending quarters.

Either way, I admit these games are fun :-)

You've got to love the discrepancies in interests and pertsonality charecteristics listed for the women vs. the men...

Was just in Seoul in March and didn't hear of the game, then again I don't make it a habit of hanging out at video arcades...

I do remember a visit to Seoul several years ago and some guys we met dancing took a group of us to the Army base for dinner- there was a video game there that this guy was playing and we were checking it out. One opponent succeeded in kicking the daylights out of the other, and flashed on the screen was "BRUTALITY BONUS- 50 points"!

Hehe! That's what I like in my video games. BRUTALITY!   Just kidding. I play tetris and racing games.

I can't see that dancesport game selling in the US. I do hang out at arcades and at my local used video game shop, and niche games don't sell. There is a big kiddie market -- Mario Brothers type stuff. And then there's a teen/mature market, with lots of graphic violence. Dancesport? Somehow I don't see that fitting either demographic.

Although, from some of the stories I've heard about couples deliberately bullying other competitors on the floor, the game might not be ALL THAT farfetched.

Awesome!

They should make a score in DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) for Brutality points... Mostly, those would be applied to the absolutely *AWESOME* players -- playing on their Maniac modes and not missing a single arrow! -- who are playing against players who are trying to just stay in the game on their first time! (I'm on my way to being one of those *AWESOME* players... But that's still many trials in practice mode away... =^__^=)

Ah, well. I still think it'd be fun to see that Tango game over here!

HELLYAH!!!! DDR!!!!!
DDR also is better exercise than streetfighter-type dancing. WOw, I never imagined i would ever be using the phrase streetfighter-type dancing ever.

Maybe they could have a mode where the leader gets to punish the follower for not keying the same button the leader wanted. Revenge, finally!! This could have a market for disgrunteled leaders.

On the flip side, the follower could wip out some nasty streetfighter moves after the leader does 19 basics in a row.
