Hello Everyone,

This may be the best Desert Classic ever! We are busy putting the schedule together--so much to do. But it is all worth it because we get to see all of you. (And it is a lot of fun too!)

Luca & Loraine are busy working on an all-new show just for you so it should be really thrilling. Also, if you know people who golf, we are having a tournament on Monday, July 13th. Send us an email if you are interested in participating.

Our judging panel is world-class. John DePalma and Nick Kosovich are our emcees. IDSF competitions should be fabulous also!

Wow...it just gets better every year because of support from you!

By the way, if you go to our site at www.desertclassicdancesportfestival.com (http://www.desertclassicdancesportfestival.com) and sign up for our Breaking News, you'll get some wonderful discount coupons from our vendors--many of them are good at the Desert Classic, for online purchases or at other events. If you are already a subscriber, you will receive them in your email announcements from the Desert Classic Times.

We have added a Teddy Bear event (C/S/J) for Under 7 years to our Sunday Matinee program. The kids are so cute--our future champions! Just a delight to watch them.

Thank you all so much for choosing the Desert Classic. We know you have a large menu of competitions and we are greatly honored that you selected us. We are looking so much forward to seeing all of you all in Palm Desert in just a few days.

You can send questions to us via our competition site or directly to us at isuvorov@aol.com. or desertclassictimes@yahoo.com.

See you all very soon!

Cheers

thought about going as the judging panel seems interesting, but way tooo expensive of an airport to fly and the schedule isn't quite convenient either, so unfortunately won't be attending :(

FWIW, its cheaper to fly into Ontario and rent a car.

This will be the third year I've gone and it is definitely worth dealing with the hassle of getting to ...and heat of the Palm Springs area in July. This is the hottest place I've ever been in my life. But also one of the best competitions.

Yepper, fly into Ontario Airport. Rent a car go 90 minutes eastbound on the 10 fwy. Much better. snicker snicker and my parents keep telling me "oh but dear...it's such a dry heat", maybe for skeletons. Should be fun, I'll be competing on Saturday, and hang with the folks throughout the rest of the weekend. Weather has been fabulous of late.

Given that its due to the passing of their brother-in-law, its quite understandable. At least its another top-notch couple picking up the slack! :D

oh yeah - no disrepect meant at all towards any of the players - it's just that if you're a standard guy and looking forward to seeing some of the finest in the world - any latin replacement is a disappointment by comparison - but I'm sure they will do an amazing show and everyone will go home happy :-)

I know its too late for us to go this year, just for future info

You seriously are asking how hot? Well, let me tell ya! My parents live 3 blocks away from the hotel, and at their house on Friday it was 108, yesterday (saturday it was 109), today, when I left at 11 a.m. to drive home - it was 110. Yet, in the ballroom here I was, wearing a jacket - comfortably cold and thanking the person who invented Air Conditioning. "but it's a dry heat".

Debra
07-13-2009, 08:26 AM
Standarddancer: you can fly into either the Palm Springs Airport (somewhat more expensive) and rent a car for about a twenty minute drive to the Hotel. Or, you can fly into Ontario (less expensive) and rent a car there. Depending on how fast you drive it is probably 45 min to an hour to the Hotel. The Hotel discount rate for the comp was quite reasonable, a little over $100.00.

It was a lovely event, well run, lots of great standard dancing.

Oh, definitely agree. I jsut find it even more useful to have all the results right here on DF. :)

But yeah, rather than going to winners circle, professional divisions, each of the 8 divisions (reminds me, missed cabaret/showdance if this comp had it), just go to o2cm and pick desert classic, and all major results were there on one page. Ironic that I didn't even think about that after normally staying up half night waiting for results. :) Probably because two couples I'm most interested in were at AAC this weekend, so know they weren't at desert classic.

Got home (back to San Diego) around 3:30am, so still groggy this morning.

I danced Friday morning, and then was doing photography for DecaDance the rest of the weekend. Had the unexpected pleasure of getting to meet both 3wishes and Debra, so that was a bonus (I always love meeting DFers, so thanks to you both for introducing yourselves!) :D

It was 108 degrees by 11am yesterday, and I was told that it ended up being 125 degrees later in the afternoon! In two words: TOO HOT!!!

This was their first smooth competition. As star gazer has noted, there was some great quality to their movement. I think they make a very nice addition to the smooth field heading into the summer and fall.

They're from our [home] studio and I had the pleasure to dance smooth in Team Match at Emerald with Marzena several years ago.

Also, they are re-entering the competitive field after becoming new parents . . .

It's probably the most relaxing competition I've ever attended and/or participated in. Gotta love the lake in the middle of the hotel lobby. It's probably meant for those who cannot brave the 110-120 degree "dry" so they call it "heat". ROFL.
And yes, Gracie, Nightclub dancing with Alex. Lot's of others from our group going as well.
