Can anyone clarify the difference, if any, between

"feather finish"
"feather ending"
or simply being "outside partner"

The first two are figures, the latter is a position. Both figures end in the outside partner position. Of the figures, IIRC, the former is typically an action taken with the man backing LOD, the latter usually from PP.

1... A figure commenced with partner O/P on L side, it also may include the 1st step backwards ( as in 4-7 of a Rev.turn )

2.. For e.g. that which may follow from a Prom. position.
3.. O/P is simply that. O/P... left or rightside

While a feather finish could be commenced with the partner outside on the left side, this would be be highly unusual. Typically the term refers to the first step backwards as seen in the reverse turn, while the feather ending is the version from promenade (also known as a continuity ending in american style).

A weave ending is very similar, but preceded by one more step, basically used when on the wrong foot for a feather finish - ie, QQQQ instead of SQQ and perhaps commenced from a position of moderate foot rise than than a lowered position.

Another distinction. Feather usually, exclusively?, refers to Slow Foxtrot material. OP is general, used in any Standard/Smooth dance.

The most important distinction between Feather Finish and Feather Ending is that the former contains three steps (RS (1), in outside partner LQ (2), RQ (3): the first step, RS, may be a backing step as in after the Reverse Turn or forward step as in after the Three Step), while the latter contains only two steps (i.e., in outside partner LQ (1), RQ (2) as in after the Weave Ending). Do any dance gru agree with me?
