View Full Version : Anyone here ever make a mylar mirror?

I've seen the screen frame option, but I am thinking I would rather use a lightweight hardboard and glue the mylar on if possible.

A proper mirror is out of the question due to cost and because we can't mount things on the wall. (It's a borrowed practice space.) That lets out mirrored tiles as well.

Thanks for any input you might have. :p

Welcome to DF, Jen.

I have not tried it myself, but based on other times I've used mylar, and a little quick research, it seems the distortion would quickly become too frsutrating to make make use of the view in the mirror.

I might suggest instead of hardboard, use one of those polystyrene balls available at the craft shops.

You will soon be annoyed by the imperfections in the surface as you will be unlikely to glue it down flat.

Never tried what you're suggesting but I would suggest you use a spray adhesive such as 3M's 77. It's used to attach automobile headliners and other light fabrics to metal and wood surfaces and it would allow you to squeegee the mylar as smooth as you can.

i've seen mylar mirrors they're quite useful. they're light and inexpensive. plus you can put them on wheels and roll them around to where you need them. they look just like regular mirrors (if mounted correctly) except they're light and don't shatter when they break. :)

Thanks everyone! I will try to get a roll of mylar mirror and test a few different options and see which one will give me the most function with the fewest problems.
