That was a hyperlink just before no? lol now I'm lost :o

Link is missing an s, Larinda (though it's displaying it, link doesn't have it). Oops, Nybz beat me to it. :P
Haven't heard of anyone here going. Been wondering about it though, since I keep seeing the ad for it on dancebeat.

It was a hyperlink... but as per our DF Commericial Hyperlink Guidelines I had to moderate myself and deactivate the live link.... ;)
Well thats good, we don't want to give too much business to the Engine systems development centre :p
Anyway, I will not be attending. That would be the weekend after my MCAT and the time I attempt to find a job to pay for more lessons and comps :D
Might go Fri and or Sun. Can't go Sat. Visiting with family.

I may actually be there Sunday night. I will be passing through NYC at some point that weekend and am trying to get the BF to agree to stop in to watch the comp when we are there. I hope I can pull it off.

Looks like a great comp.
I note that the latin include Eugene Katsevman-Maria Manusova, Delyan Terziev-Boriana Deltcheva-Terziev, Nikolai Pilipenchuk and Natasha Skorikova, Nikolai Shpakov and Tatiana Banko...among others. You lucky dogs who are going!
The am latin looks good too, with competitors including Sasha Tchernossitov and Regina Maziarz, Jason Dai-Patrycja Golak, and Nicole Pyatetskya (previous USA Dance Youth Latin champ with Armen Petrosyan) with a new partner (or at least one I haven't seen her dance with yet).
I liked the looks of the American rhythm too!
And I know at least one DFer is making her pro-am debut! ;)
Have fun, everyone!!!

I am a beginning social dancer in NYC. I know nothing about competitions, but would love to watch you talented people. Would I be able to stop by and watch for an hour or so at lunch time on Friday? Can tickets be bought at the door? Fill me in! (And if anyone coming from out of town has any questions about NYC, I have lived here for 25 years and would be happy to answer.)

Just ask; I'm happy to help. It's this dance move, where you... wait, you have a photo of you doing one on your photos page. ;)
(I suddenly feel like one of those men who dances with you at a social and tells you you could be pretty good if you'd only learn a bit).

Open Professional International Standard Championships
Open Professional Theatre Arts Paso Dobles Championships
Top Pro/Am Solo Demonstrations

Absolutely first class. And the audience gave it up in a very big way; I've not heard such cheering and screaming in ages. That's got to give a huge energy boost to the dancers!
Actually, all in all, this was a really enthusiastic, high-energy, well run comp, and I'd recommend it. (But I'm prejudiced.) ;)

1 Eugene Katsevman & Maria Manusova
There was defintely some tension on the floor between Delyan and Eugene & Maria. I was a little taken back by the seemingly endless and intentional battle for spacing. It seemed that both couples wanted the same space and although E&M got there first D&B were determined to push them out, ending in several collisions and an occasional push. E&M never seemed phased and kept a very cool head, it was clear they felt the aggresion but never displayed any back, coming out looking even more professional and calm. Finally for the Jive they just chassed away to a very quiet corner, away from the majority of the crowd and competitors, turned up the heat over there, and created their own personal corner of excitement. Pretty interesting to watch.

I had a great time. Most of the day sessions were quiet, at least by the time I got in there for Gold and Open, perhaps they were a little more attended during the bronze and silver... I don't know. It was nice to have the hotel back in shape, with a real restaurant and bar. All of the construction last year really threw everyone for a loop. I have to say that I am not a fan of most of the music that the DJ played, although he is a really nice person and his wife is quite lovely. Most of the heats ran on time, if not even a little ahead.
My student did relatively well in the Open, pretty much just getting through the routines without any major breakdowns. He has only been with me for three months, and that has just been burdened with learning the open routines. If he deviates from them he can't really communicate yet... as his previous teacher never took him through syllabus :( but just threw him into open, so he has no back up plan. Overall for his second comp I was happy that when things did get wonky he was able to keep going.
