So who's going? And yes, this is still a month or so out, but they've already got preliminary heat lists up, and I know several people here are going either to watch or compete, so I decided to start a thread anyway, early or not. :P

Looks like I'll probalby be there Friday and Saturday night to spectate.

Heat lists (so far) are up here:

are those heat lists current? why does it say september 2007 in the upper right corner?!

etp777

Heat lists are definitely current. At least in some respects. Two of those couples didn't start competing together until this March at St Louis. Not that I have a vested interest in cheering for them or anything. ;) noticed another couple that's new to me. Guy in it had another longstanding partner up until last fall. So definitely think these are right.

No problem in asking, I certainly don't expect anyone to be as obsessive about local couples as I am. :)

Plus I've had trouble reading results/heat lists from this comp before, so have some experience interpreting it.

I'll be there! I compete on Saturday and will be attending the evening event to watch my pro compete.

etp777
08-04-2009, 10:17 PM
As often as I might suggest getting the middle or top level tickets/seats at a comp for the pro events, I was sitting in cheap seats last year at Windy City and could still see everything perfectly. Plus had a couple cute women sitting next to me. Alla raound, wasn't worth spending the extra on the "better" seats. ;)

Yes, and they'll lose to your pro, as usual. I'll cheer for your pro and his partner in any heats where he's not competing against my friends. Love watching your pro and his partner, but have to cheer for my friends first. :)

oooo, do you know if they're planning to do the new showdance? That I have people who might be able to beat, but more important, I want to see the new routine.

So I made a dumb mistake. I booked two rooms at the Hyatt, one for myself, one for another student who is only looking to spectate. After confirmation of the rooms, I realized the student is only coming Saturday night and leaving Sunday morning. I booked my room for Thurs-Sunday. I called the hotel, they said there isn't a refund, even though I tried taking off Thurs and Fri of the second room. I'm thinking of calling the manager to figure this out, unless someone else on here wants the room for Thursday and Friday night? The student isn't coming until Saturday morning and she could just leave stuff in my room until check out Saturday. Any help??? :(

That is really strange that they wouldn't let you take days off your reservation. i just called them yesterday to take a day off of my reservation and they let me do it. When you booked it did you do it online or over the phone?

I ended up calling back and said I made a mistake with the reservations online and she fixed it right on the spot and I will be getting a refund. Lady #1 was the rude one! Always put your customers first.

We did this competition last year and I got the impression they were still working out the scheduling, because neither of our events ran on time. One event was over 30 minutes early, the other, an hour late. Perhaps is was just bad luck and they had something unexpected take place.

Welcome to DF, mad123! I assume you'll be dancing during the day on Saturday? If during the night, I"ll cheer for you if you send me message to clue me in as to who to cheer for. ;)

Either way, Windy City tends to be one of my favorite comps in area here, though Crystal Ball is moving up on list (partly because it's easier for me to get to)

Make sure you bring an umbrella. Chance of rain friday and saturday, and rain plus fake tan can be messy, depending on which you use and how well you let it dry. :)

lcdancesport
09-01-2009, 12:03 PM
Oh poo, I don't want any rain! I don't think I'll have time to do anything anyways. I'm out there Friday morning, Friday night, early Saturday morning, show Saturday night.

I've been using this spray tan called Fake Bake, it's pretty popular and it's so easy to use. I'm not going overboard with it, but I definitely see a nice tan now.

Some great dancing there tonight. Was mostly pro am scholarships, but also the occasional am couple and pro showdance. I had to leave before pro standard to catch my train.

Partial pro showdance
1 Vicente Martinez and Megan Murphy
2 Alex Tecza and Katja lindholm
3 Alex Thomas and his partner (tall thin redhead) from Ohio

Love Alex and Katja's new routine. Said it before, and will keep saying it. :)

Got to see fasc and lcdancesport again. Fasc looked GREAT out there. lcdancesport,s student looked good too, just needs to remember to smile. :)

I'll try to do better on results tomorrow

Michael and Joanna were just amazing (no surprise there, of course :) ).

Pro rhythm was interesting int hat it was an all FA final. And not jsut all FA, but all Chicago or Milwaukee region FA couples. Most important result there (to me :) ), was Aleks and Brittney getting second. There's been three couples that they've been just a hair behind all year, to point it was rather frustrating for them at times. To beat not one, but all three of them last night, was a huge accomplishment. I have no doubt those four couples will continue to go back and fourth, but having the result tonight was a great pick-me-up for them. :)

Walking out of ballroom after, buddy teacher comes up to me and says "Did you pay attention to the chacha during the show? that's how I want you to dance." 'You want me to dance like Michael? Is that all?' "Exactly" I wasn't quite sure how to respond to that one. :P It's always trouble to talk or even watch latin around her. ;)

Touche! Having had a lesson with Joanna on Friday I can safely say that even if I danced 8 hours a day, seven days a week for the rest of my life my cha cha would not be like theirs! A friend at my table put it all in perspective when she reflected that they make up the "1% of the ballroom world that make world champions." The rest of us need them for inspiration! ;)

Yes, I danced on Saturday morning and afternoon. It was my first comp and it was a good learning experience. There were a couple of times I was on the floor at the same time as Fasc, just a different category.
