Do you have a 'useless talent'....? What is it?

Have you done anything with it......? Stories....?

More for the enquiring minds  ..........

hmm.. i sing pretty well..

in the shower that is

so i guess its sort of 'useless', unless it helps the hot water last longer in a wierd metaphysical way

besides wiggling ears, eyebrows (each separately) w/o moving any other facial muscles, i can flare my nostrils to about twice their regular diameter. comes in handy to amuse the kids (amazing how quiet they become as they stand in front of a mirror trying to figure out what muscles to flex) and as a secret weapon in staring contests...

that being said, there really isn't a useless talent although the demand for said talent may approach zero while E approaches infinity...

I will do my best to describe this.

I can sit on the floor with 'outwards Lotus style'......thighs together, knees next to each other, while calf & feet (folded so my feet are next to my hips) sit flat on the ground, pointing outwards 8) . My brother & I have always been able to sit like this & couldn't figure out what the fuss was :? .......

My friend's sister can do a really mean 'blowfish', so we make her do that on everything see-through  .......hours of rolling-on-the-floor fun...!

I sit like that! My mother used to call me a contortionist

As for a useless talent..... I dont know! I think all my talents become useful at some point!

After only hearing it once I can tell you exactly what song is coming on by hearing the first 4 bars only. This amazingly useless ability also applies to TV theme songs. Totally freaks people out

Sagitta

Youngsta that's very useful. You know pretty fast whether you will like dancing to that song, and so can afford to wait before catching a partner. I have no useless talents. Perhaps I have no talents? :?

pygmalion

Not useless at all, youngsta, and quite a talent. 8) Serious music students spend lots of time in class trying to develop that ability. And not everyone EVER gets it.

Thanks although since Name that Tune isn't on anymore it is useless   It's funny, when my ex and I would be in the car an the first 2-3 bars played I'd usually say something like "This is my SONG!" and start singing. She'd reply, "The song isn't even ON yet...how did you know?"

I can throw a small object (preferably edible) into the air and catch it in my mouth. I can also spit the said object out and catch it again. I can also catch an object in my mouth when thrown at me by a friend. I think I was a seal in a former life. :D

i have a very keen 6th sense about people .. i can tell about how they really are and what not from just a little time of any type of communication.. i have found thru-out the years that i'm strangely enough 99% right on the mark..

saying so.. it hasn't done me much good because i try to give people the benefit of the doubt + i dont like judging others.

Hmmm....how do I describe this one. I can arch my fingers (on both hands) back about 5 degrees and then proceed to bend just the tips forward. Freaks people out to look at them. I can bend the tips of each finger individually or the all of them together at a 90 degree angle to the rest of the finger.

I feel the need to bring this thread back to life....usless talents are great.

I have two...to help me get through shots at the doctors office, my mother suggested reciting the alphabet backwards. At the time it worked, but I am now so good at it that I get from z-a before the shot is even given.

I can also touch my tongue to my nose.

macha

Everything I know how to do is useless

I can put both heels behind my head and walk on my hands (still!)

I can make a bird/raccoon trill by warbling air between my teeth and upper lip. Nobody else I know can do this.

I can poledance (I think you'll agree- a 200lb poledancer is useless)- long story- don't ask.

Palmistry and Tarot divination (fortune tellin', that thar is)

I can play the flute, fife, piccolo and tinwhistle passably well. Could do better if I actually stuck with it regularly.

I can raise eyebrows interchangeably, too.

I can NOT do a simple cartwheel. Not even when I was skinny. I just CAN'T. At all.

And I used to call it useless, but as Sag. says, no talent is useless. Maybe I will still become a torch singer, or something... At least, this reminds me I might go back to choir practice.

I have a TON of useless talents. I'll try to remember them all...

I can wiggle my ears (I can even wiggle each one separately). I can flare my nostrils very wide. I can make my nose go up and down like a bunny rabbit. Someone posted something about a Lotus-position thing... I can do that. Youngsta said he knows what song is going to come on after only the first 4 bars or so. One day I was at my private lesson and my teacher was trying to find a song for the cha cha. He was pressing the >> button pretty quickly so I could only here the first second of each song. He passed by a song I liked so I told him to play that one. He looked at me as if he couldn't believe I knew what song it was after only hearing a few notes from it. 8) I can do a backbend til my elbows touch the ground and my head touches my feet. I can do a scorpion and touch my chin with my foot. I can raise each eyebrow separately. I can put both of my feet behind my neck. I can raise the upper sides of my lips separately (think: I Love Lucy, if you can't picture this). I can make a U and a W with my tongue. I can do the worm backwards and forwards.

I don't think these things are such a big deal but it sure keeps other people amused...

I probably forgot something.

Rita can hula-hoop non stop. We go to Siesta Key beach every May and they always have a hula-hoop contest, and she always wins. Same way on cruises we have taken. The only time she lost was when she had to many Pina Coladas and her hoop hit the railing. http://ourworld.cs.com/KsmithCCI/drink.gif
My "useless talent" is balancing things on my nose--brooms, rakes, boat paddles, etc. The Grand Kids get a kick out of it, especially when it slips and hits me in the head.

I can roll my tongue and flip it over (my fiance can do neither).

I can sing (I'm a very earthy alto).

I can twirl a rifle (on rifle line in high school) and I still can toss it and catch in with my legs (in between my right thigh and left knee crossing my left over right as the rifle comes down).

I'm very flexible and can get my knees to touch the ground on either side of my head from plow position (yoga move).

I can cross all of my fingers into one claw-like mass crossing my index over my thumb, my middle over my index, my ring over my middle and my pinky over my ring until all my fingers point one way.

I have a talent for useless trivia. I used to read encyclopedias as a child and I was one of those people that memorized all the Trivial Pursuit cards.

I can make That Face.

That Face consists of a sneer on top on one side, and a corresponding inverted sneer on the lower lip on the other side, at the same time. Hard to describe, hard to forget once seen. We who can do it are rare indeed. Whenever I find someone else who can make it, we are instantly blood family. I can even do it on both left and right sides; this makes me special among the special, I'm told. Amazingly, Teach, the man who is held together with loose rubber bands, like a cat, cannot make That Face. It's definitely a useless talent.

I tend to be oddly good at those stupid shape puzzle thingies. Um...tangrams. Strange, since I have very little spatial awareness in real life.

Or at least I used to be good at them.

From D-F, I know I'm pretty good at typing my username with my nose.

Other than that...er...

If I lay on my stomach I can bend my body like a seal and touch my nose with my toes, if that made sense.
Lioness, I'm very impressed. That means we can also call you "Sea Lioness"!

How was the callback?

I can remember a lot of lyrics ... I even know a fair number of songs in languages I don't speak ... once I learn them I don't forget them. But my repertoire doesn't include anything current, so my talent would probably be useless even in the context of Don't Forget the Lyrics.

It went very well. They said at the end the I was "a breath of fresh air."
Current pop is kind of weak for me, too. who can understand what Lady Gaga is saying?

Still waiting to hear...nail biticon.

To exercise my memory, I memorize lists of things from time to time. It's not very useful, but I memorized all the match-ups of every single Super Bowl, including who won each game. (I also work on the Presidents and the state capitals and the Best Picture/Actor/Actress Oscar winners...)

Oh, and I can still throw a pretty good curve ball--I used to play a lot of baseball as a kid; though back then I could also throw a knuckleball and a screwball. I could also make spectacular diving catches in the outfield! And steal bases almost at will, and hit for a high batting average...

I'm really good at memorising numbers. Phone numbers, postcodes, random sequences, atomic mass; you name it.

Can you come to work with me :p I am so terrible memorizing numbers. We use soo many phone numbers through out the day to0. Wish we had speed dial for everyone.
