SYTYCD is out of the gate this Tuesday, starting with the audition shows. DwtS waits until Sept. 21 to start. The programs are set to overlap Tuesday, with SYTYCD 2 hour performance show starting at 8 pm Eastern and DwtS 1 hour result show starting an hour later at 9 pm Eastern.

While I'm set to take advantage of the overlap, what with a DVR that can record 3 channels simultaneously, what's the choice you would make if you didn't (or don't) have the option to record and see both?

SYTYCD hands down.

Oh, that was quick, Dancing Mommy! I was going to put myself down for SYTYCD and you were already there.

I would go for a chance to see performance over result for either show, but SYTYCD would the go-to champ in any head-to-head matchup.

I like my DwtS and all, but man, those results shows are just total crap. I just want to watch dancing!!

You forgot a choice. Watch one and DVR the other to watch later. That's what I'm going to do.

Only every 3rd or 4th show now. Instead they have Macy's "stars" of dance.
With 3 DVRs, I can watch both, FFing through everything that's not actual dancing. (Which means watching results shows in about 6 minutes.)

If the schedule was reversed, with SYTYCD results show overlapping DwtS performance show I would channel hop, as well. Have to see the opening group number of SYTYCD, it's the highlight of the result show, IMO.

It cracks me up how these celebs who have never danced before just come out with like a jive or paso doble on the first or second week!

I love SYTYCD auditions, can't believe they're already getting in to another season, amazing. SYTYCD is what truly inspired me to want to dance, and it continually does.

You forgot a choice. Watch one and DVR the other to watch later. That's what I'm going to do.

Unfortunately, I'm at work during the evenings, and can't 'watch one while recording the other'.....AND....my DVR doesn't do that anyway. :-)

Such is life.

I will be DVR'ing both as to avoid commercials and some screaming from Mary. If I had to make a choice though I would definitely watch SYTYCD, no question.

I mute the judges commentaries unless the dance was especially moving (read: commentary will be poignant not Mary screaming)

All the DWTS shows are available online by the next day - so definitely I'll watch SYTYCD live and watch DWTS results online.

I just checked and SYTYCD doesn't start till Wednesday, Sept 9th at 8pm and it will be a one hour show. But remember as the season goes on they usually change the days on which it airs. But season 5 was a Wed/Thurs air time.

My mistake on the start of the season is already up for everyone's amusement in a SYTYCD Audition thread I started. The schedule conflict is shown on TV Guide.com's Fall Schedule (http://www.tvguide.com/special/fall-preview/fall-schedule.aspx), where SYTYCD is scheduled for Tuesday-Wednesday.

The SYTYCD audition shows are going to be drawn out by just showing an hour long show instead of two hours and only on Wednesday night, at least for the first two weeks. I haven't found any listing beyond Sept 22, which is Tuesday and the second night of the three night DwtS starting week, with seperate men's night/women's night performance shows for two hours each and a result show on Wednesday. So I'm expect by the end of the month TV Guide will have it right and the regular weekly showings of our favorite dance shows will be overlapping.
