This is deep.

Really.

Prepare yourself.

Fitted jeans do NOT WORK for salsa dancing! OMG! They don't breathe and just fit all the more as you heat up.

Never ever again!

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

I saw a girl last night (awesome dancer) who had on stretchy fitted jeans and she looked great, didn't seem to be having sweat management problems -- Why do some people seem to not sweat at ALL?

I have no place in the Salsa thread, but couldn't resist.
The aircon was out of order at our regular dance venue this weekend - they had the huge blow fans on. Die hard dancers we are, we danced "ballroom" for a few hours till most of us looked like we had just gone swimming / showered but still wet. What an experience !

And to think I almost put jeans on last Friday night! ;)

Ok...I admit...see another confession...I have discovered that cotton short sleeve shirts work way better then the blended fabrics with long sleeves. Lol.

Anyway...we had air conditioning on Friday! Yeehah!

Frankly, I'm not sure I'd wear jeans of any style, regular slacks work just fine, and I'll leave the skirts and dresses to the ladies, yet your advice makes sense to me.

Besides, I just don't see myself wearing the skin tight stuff nor for that matter the low cut style either. I'd rather leave alittle bit to the imagination, even though my SO has mighty nice things to say about my rearend, with or without clothes. (Oh gosh, and I actually wrote that?)

Well, it's been said that the more in shape people are, the more they sweat; and I know we dancers are in tip-top (sorta!) shape, to do what we do, so I like SD's explanation!

...Actually, a story from my DDR experiences happens to fit in to this "sweating" category:
I was doing "Exercise Mode" on DDR Max** one day, and I did it for about an hour or so. Well, I sweat rivers from my face, no kidding! Well, I went out to the kitchen to re-fill my glass of water, and my mother saw me and asked, "Caitlan, did you put water on your face?!?!"    You can imagine how slightly embarrassed/very amused I was! 8) But I wouldn't worry about the sweating thing! It's actually very healthy for you, because when you sweat, your body releases a natural antibiotic onto your skin! :)

I'd rather leave alittle bit to the imagination, even though my SO has mighty nice things to say about my rearend, with or without clothes. (Oh gosh, and I actually wrote that?)

I wear jazz dance pants or synthetic blends, NEVER cotton! I would soak it in sweat instantly, and that stuff NEVER dries!!!
The girls I see that wear jeans for salsa aren't doing the splits or high kicks (as I sometimes attempt. Note "attempt" is the key word here). I could only imagine how binding and uncomfortable that would be...

 OH! I almost forgot! =^__^=

I was going to say, I have two pairs of pants that I *love* to dance in! One (which I wore to my Salsa workshop last night! --See First Salsa Workshop! thread, if you happen to be interested in my first experience with Salsa! 8) *shameless self-advertisment*) is a pair of non-jean-type pants that are made out of a thin, though sturdy and *very* breathable material (I wanna say it's "cloth-like" but I know that's not it... :? ), have pipe-legs, show off the legs just a bit (if one is into that sort of thing), and are nice and easy to move in, even when sweaty!! The second is my normal pair of pants I wear to my lessons. They are black with silver pinstripes (which actually seem to disappear depending on the angle you're looking at them at!), are made out of a "nice-pants" material, are semi-tight (not like the jeans that can sometimes look like they're "spray-painted on!" {to quote my French teacher!}, but tight enough), but are still nice and easy to move in!

:D I love my dance pants!

Binding! Eeek! Another reason for a guy not to wear jeans. Lol!

Uncomfortable might be an understatement. I'd say ... painful.

And regarding cotton...I only said it was better...not necessarily the best...I'm still experimenting. I'm going to try linen next weekend. And I mean for the shirt, not the pants.

P.S. Sakura: Your teasing with your description, but that's not a bad thing. Sounds very nice indeed.

I did try one of those developmental kicks in waltz last weekend mirroring my partner just for the fun of it. It actually came off ok. NOOOOOOO DP....not linen! I REALLY wouldn't advice you to wear a linen shirt to dance in....*scary thought!!*

I wear jeans when I go dancing but then that's because my partner and I like to try different 'stunts' so to speak 8) . We have a couple moves like 'the dead drop', 'the swoop', 'walk-over', 'tornado', 'the helicopter' and 'the double dip' just to name a few  . And I have to be doing SOME form of lifting legs....lots of spins...dips....and backward bends....aint no WAY a skirt is gonna cut it for me!! not that I've never worn a dress or skirt before  but they are so limiting for me 8)

it's also VERY heavy when wet and soaks up sweat like a sponge....and NOT in a good way either....but then again I guess it depends on the kind of linen

I love the jazz pants that are seamless and that have ribbing to shape a waist if you dont have one

FYI jazz pants are fitted stretch pants with a boot or flared leg.

I like to wear jeans to dance that ahve a little stretch around them as if they fit across the hips they make me aware of my hip action

Almost embarassing moment that happened to me this morning. I almost walked out after my ballet class wearing my leotard my jacket and shoes but nothing over my pink tights! Guess I got so comfortable wearing jsut tights I forgot all about my warm up pants. Gosh that would have been funny

Well, it's been said that the more in shape people are, the less they sweat; but I know we dancers are in tip-top (sorta!) shape, to do what we do, so I like SD's explanation!

Actually I recall it being the reverse, the more you exercise the easier you sweat: if you exercise you don't just train your muscles, you also train your body in losing it's excess heat, so a well trained person will start sweating sooner then an untrained person whose "temperature-control systems" just aren't as sensitive/responsive.

Ofcourse training aside, there can be huge differences between different people's sweating, I'm definately in the above average category when it comes to sweating. I prefer cotton or cottonblends and loose pants when dancing, and it's always at least a clean cotton undershirt and generous amounts of deoderant before I go dancing. As far as those people who can dance all night and hardly sweat are concerned: the b@$7@rd$!!

Har har, Sabor! Swimming trunks! Good idea, though, actually. Might be cute to see all those hairy legs at a salsa party( unless you're all gonna WAX!!!)

Someone was inquiring as to the content of the "jazz pants"
Here are what my labels say:

polyester/lycra(Danskin- lots of zippers on these)

supplex nylon/spandex(These are Danskins, I have 2 pair & LOVE them & have been searching desperately for more- cannot find this style)

cotton/micro lycra/nylon(Carushka. Fit like a GLOVE!)

The dance suppliers make extra long sizes which I need, so I usually order from them. Victoria's Secret has a cool "Yoga Pant" that is VERY comfortable, and the price is right. They occasionally have other synthetic
sport stretch pants and when they do, I buy several pair. Regular fashion apparel, even when not on sale, is cheaper than stuff made especially for dance.
I wear these pants all the time, even for work- they go well with suits & stuff and always look sleek because of their tight fit! :D

Actually, I dance in jeans most of the time.

One material I try to avoid wearing is silk. It just doesn't breath.

I have found that polyester/rayon blends work pretty well. Rayon makes the fabric less itchy and polyester dries really fast.

...You know, though,: making warm-up jackets with our DF names on back and "Dance-Forums! ...Got Dance (to incorporate all styles! 8) )?" would be really cool!

....Actually, the back could have:
Official DFite:
(insert name)

(insert my quote from Genesius about the DFites and Baalish Zombie Grinders!!!)

Wouldn't that be great?! :D (Of course, I could just be over-enthused, but we could do that as a way to raise funds for DF, ne? I *know* internet space costs monies, so if we could find a company willing to make these, we could do some sort of limited-time offer and send in custom-orders for these coats, and maybe we could get part of the profits to go to DF! ...Of course, I could just be reading too much into this...  ...But I still think it'd be cool as something to try and do around the holidays or something...!)

40-(10x2)=20

20+40=60

Let's see if I can figure this out, this is a bit tricky but I suspected no less from our dear friend Sabor. :D

Here's my guess from his original age quote:

44-22+18-10*2+40-69

So, as SK noted, 44-22 = 22 + 18 + 40

Now here's the weird part:

40-10*2 +40-69 = ?

So, we do the other half first:

10*2 = 20 +40 = 60 -69 = -9

40 + -9 = 31

Sabor, su tengas trienta y uno anos? Es verdad que no?

=>_<=/    (I'm stuck between going, "Moouuuuuu! Don't make fun of me!!" and the thought of my trying to study for an Alg. II final with the entirety of DF -- which would probably lead to trying to find the varying circumfrences of the big, slow spins we followers can be taken into or the small, tight, fast ones! =^___^= I can actually see it all now! And the angle of a woman in the middle of a dip!  I'm gonna have *FUN* on my final tomorrow! Thanks SD! *hugs*)

JS, I'm 15 1/2, which leads to why everyone here calls me "little one" and warns the alcohol away from me! *purrs* It's good to have people look out for you! (Of course, there was also the thing about me most definitely growing up to be a "heartbreaker" from SD, Sabor, and Genesius, but that was on another post! They're *sooooo* mean to me!   )

On the math bit, SG, I did *exactly* what you did the first time I went through it (sans the really confusing set up), I multiplied what I'd gotten so far to the left of the *2, by that particular 2, and then kept going. But you have to do the -10*2 to get (-20), and then put that back into your equation.

Yup. One thing I've learned is that it's impossible for me to tell up front how long a thread is going to get. Sometimes, what I thought was a great idea for a thread gets no response. Sometimes, what I thought was a throwaway topic gets tons of response. Or, in a case like this, a thread will just strike a responsive chord with a lot of people. I think we've all been there with the sweat dripping while we were trying to dance in jeans.

Well, I'm sure he'd have to be if he wanted any follows to come dance with him!

I don't wear skirts or dresses all that much, I *REALLY* like my pants *MUCH* better, but if one were to give me a good set of leggings or something, I *might* wear a skirt on a special occasion! (Just so long as I have something to cover my legs, really... :? I have bad skin there; sorta like acne, only because my face was/is spared from it, Murphy decided he'd put it on my legs instead; so I have scaly skin. Ah, well, so long as I'm wearing something to cover them, I have nice legs otherwise! *sticks her tongue out* This is another, "You didn't need to know that, but I filled you in anyways!" bulletin from Sakura Kitty!)

I will mainly wear pants / jeans to class, and sometimes wear a skirt to the parties. For me it is comfort and not all my skirts are "danceable". I feel more free to move how I want to move in pants.

I wear tight jeans cause they cut down on 'wind-resistance' when I'm dancing...especially with the spins 8) but not skin tight ones cause I'm really really slim and don't really see the need to emphasize that fact! (but then guys like dancing with me because of my size so...who am I to complain :D )

@sagitta: I haven't switch to dresses/skirts yet and I have been doing this for three years now  :P

@sakura: I agree I only wear dresses/skirts on 'special ocassions' or when I feel like that (which aint that often anyway  ). People at the club have gotten so used to seeing me in jeans that when I dress up I get alot of 'stares' soooo uncomfortable!! and I LIKE comfortable..SO back to jeans  but if I come your side (hopefully that will be in December of this year - New York)...I'll make the 'sacrifice' and dress up for a night of salsa

I know that feeling soooooo well!!! :D Normally, I'm strictly in pants, so when someone catches me in a skirt or my *ONE* dress (Sooooo pretty! I got it down in FL; it's a dress that *MAKES* you want to wear a dress; and for *me*, that's saying something *BIG*!!!!!!), everyone's like, "    My, *GOD,* Cat, you're wearing a... A... A skirt/dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" *laughs* It's good to be people like me!

Of course, I think getting funny looks is fun, 'cause then I get to wave back with a huge smile and go, "Hi!!!!! *wave, wave*" It's much in the fun of -ness. =^_~=

Well, you won't run into me in New York, but you'll run into many other DFites, so have a *ton* of fun with that, and go do a Salsa for me, kay?!

*hugs*

Definitely be comfortable. I would rather you be comfortable. People just staring at you because you look so good...you know what I mean. And not everyone does this, but just as in ballroom I notice people changing their dress and habits due to dance.

Sagitta, you flatter us! 8) Some skirts can be comfy I guess, "skorts," rather (the ones with shorts under them!)! I cheat, I know!

*laughs and runs her hand through her hair* Heh, heh; the snakes and guns tend to get people!  8)

Re-living childhood is all well and good, but who says we have to leave it behind! Just because your body decides to get older doesn't mean you have to! I keep the care-free days with me! (Unless of course, there's a huge project due the next day and I've done almost no work on it...  Go figure.) :D

*shudders* You had to bring up *THAT* song... That's one of Michael's that I just tend to go on believing he never wrote/recorded/etc... =>_<= And he looks scary in the movie... No offence to him of course; short hair just never did suit him -- at least when it was straight and voluminous. *makes a face*

Ooh! Pictures! I must go look at those! :D  Well, then off I trot! *waves*

'Sides, I did my part in bringing the topic back to it's original idea, "What I learned this weekend!" So, ha!
