From this article (http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20040525.wband25/BNStory/Entertainment/) (and numerous others):

American Bandstand is coming back with a new twist, courtesy of the producer of American Idol.

A revamped version, from original producer-host Dick Clark and American Idol creator Simon Fuller, will turn the show's trademark dancing into a regular competition.

[...] Clark will be a producer but won't return as on-air steward of the new Bandstand, which is scheduled to debut in summer 2005

Will be interesting to see what type of dance competitions they have.

As I have mentioned earlier, even before this show gets on the air with a heavy internet component, I already dislike this American Idol-ization that will be a major part of the new American Bandstand. I dislike the new "lifestyles" portion to be included on the new AB, showing what is hot and what is not in order to get major advertising dollars from business, trying to get that disposable income from today's youth. This new AB will not be about dance, it is all about the money. Dick Clark, you should have let the new AB stay in the familiar concept as we all know and love, keeping it limited to the dancers and hip musical guests. The only thing good about the new AB is the fact that the musical guests will not be lip-synching, they will be performing live, but then here is the problem: do you know how many artists simply cannot perform live, their hit records being a thing created in a studio? Remember this is what happened when Courtney Love & Hole, with their then monster hit album, failed miserably on the Marilyn Manson tour, which Marilyn said himself in an interview after Hole had to bow out (and Marilyn got injured during his set, bringing the entire tour to a halt). And what musical guests will be included, more of the younger, no talent artists onthe pop scene, while other more seasoned, slightly older artists with hitmaking ability---I include my pop/dance group Motherless Child here---will not be allowed on the show because they don't fit the demos? Dick, once again, I would have rather had you restart your former, famous Cameo Records/Parkway Records
labels than to have you bow down to the American Idol producers to ruin this upcoming new version of AB. Dick, please rethink this, keep the new AB real, keep it about the dance, keep it about the music and drop the American Idol crap.

Probably not going to happen, TripJazzRecords, as much as I sympathize with your view. The powers that be are trying to create a show that will sell to the current American viewing public. Sadly, at the moment, that means American Idol, which I just don't understand, btw. Why does everything have to have that fake reality TV slant? I'm hoping it's just a fad.
