Looking forward to another hour of SYTYCD. Next week will be the show to announce the top twenty, and then... finally... the show really gets going!

Tonight will be the last time I'll get to see some of these wonderful young dancers doing their thing. Not expecting a lot of dance in next week's announcement show.

And Samina, if you hadn't gotten hooked on it already, watch Glee that follows SYTYCD at 9 eastern. Wonderful high school drama/comedy that is something different than anything else on TV.

Show's starting now. Cat's saying "over half are already gone" in the last week's wrap-up... that over 77 dancers cut already.

Tonight is going to be brutal...

And Iveta's gone. And the same sex ballroom guy that was left. Have a feeling there won't be any good ballroom dancers in the top 20. Boo...

Really? She's gone? I am watching the show right now, but I did not know. What am I doing right now?

They both were cut after jazz. I find it REALLY hard to believe she did jazz worse than Legacy did ballroom. (To be that bad, she'd have had to just stand there.)

You mean the guy who just did solo contemporary? He was amazing. One of judges got very emotional. He made me emotional. Hahah......

yes, that was amazing. but even after that, the dancing highlights of the group were just extraordinary.

meh... doesn't bother me. imagine how much he probly wanted to have kept her... world champ hottie and all... maybe it was just hard for her to learn the choreo. i wish they'd provided more info on what happened.

She has a very "ballroom" look to her though. He's not fond of dancers being too ballroom.

it looks like two so-cal salseras are close to the top 20. one who we'd seen a packet on, christina santana (she elbowed her partner in the nose the first day of vegas) and the other girl, cindy stevenson, i didnt even realize had gone out for the show. they havent shown much of cindy at all. i just happened to recognize her in a number of background shots. she's of local LA fame. good luck to the salseras!!

Seriously! They are cutting Legacy all kinds of breaks.

that could explain it. there might be an erectness or formality that doesn't work with the more flowy styles. i have the impression that she has significant ballet training as well, which if so, would only add to that quality...

i agree. i think they must have legacy in mind for show ratings...

He's very likeable, so I can see where they feel he will be a fan favorite. Kind of like Philip Chbeeb last season.

Karen Hauer and the married couple (can't recall their name) seem to be doing well..
I hope we get at least 3 ballroom/salsa dancers in top 20..

I agree: Legacy is very likeable, I teared up at home watching the effect it had on him when he was out of his comfort zone and let go...

I was thinking more the fake tan with dyed blonde mushroom hair that's perfect for ballroom, not so great for other dances. The ballroom dancers they've featured have been more traditionally beautiful, like Anya or Chelsie.

as for looks, anya never did it for me, tho she looked great on the floor. iveta... i think she's gorgeous. but i hear ya on the ballroom appearance. she showed up so immaculately groomed, beautifully glamorous, in a way that set her apart from the others it seemed. if nigel doesn't care for that, it could have been a liability.

one thing i noticed right away with karen hauer is how NOT ballroomy she looks on the show. in fact, desite having seen her compete in person more times than i could ever count, i would not have recognized her without the name.

wooh...you may be onto something with this train of thought.

Yeah, for this type of show, they want someone who can not only dance other styles, but look like other styles as well. Plus the show's demographic skews young, and I think they want the dancers to project a young, casual, fresh, relatable quality. Iveta was great but her image was formal and mature compared to the others; would have been interesting to see her with flowing hair and little makeup, the way Anya and Chelsie were seen.

Have to agree with the concept behind an overall moldable image. The show always emphasizes that they are looking for "America's favorite dancer" and so from a production standpoint I do think going into the top 20 they target people with the potential to not only dance other styles well, but physically match too. Frustrating in some respects but I guess they must be doing something right with casting as it continues to be a popular show...

could it be that because she is so strong in her style... that creates weaknesses in others or her style of dancing is not as compatible w hip-hop/broadway/etc..... or maybe the personality needed to do well in the show didnt came across the camera

I personally dont think she will be cut off bc of the way she presented herself... I'm sure they could ask her to dress/groom differently if that was a concern and maybe she did during the other styles.
This show has done very well representing people w different body types/different looks in the past...
