AND I would like to have a word with him or her  Who is this last object of my affection you ask? The person who invented the material used for 10 denier tights/stockings. These things ladder/get a hole in the blink of an eye, and THAT is before I even step outside of the door
Some might say: don't wear the 10 denier or sheer tights/stockings but the thing is, there is something about 'wearing something without quite wearing something' but, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! The inventor/creator would be a trillionaire if she/he was still alive (and had patented their creation of course  )
Anyone with similar experiences?
PS. I believe the persons who invented Tipex aka whiteout and Post It Notes would not be doing too badly either. :D

This is hideous! The people who invented both nylons and post-its probably didn't benefit financially at all, since both products were invented by staff at huge multinational firms.
Nylon for hose was invented at DuPont Corporation. http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blpantyhose.htm
Post-Its were invented by a staff engineer at 3M. The adhesive used for post-its was invented years earlier by another staff scientist at 3M.

Not fair.

Ha! Here's one for the good guys. Gals, actually.
The inventor of WhiteOut was a single mom and former secretary, Bette Nesmith Graham, who became a entrepreneur and left behind a sizeable fortune when she died in 1980.

Dang! Looks like I killed this topic with excessive googling. So here are some questions to ponder. What would the world be like without these things, and does anybody know if the inventors ever got any credit?
Shoelaces
Ballpoint pens
Paperback Books
Newspapers
Aspirin
Automobile windshields
Pressure cookers
charcoal grills for home use
I guess my point is that there are so many things we take for granted, but life as we know it just wouldn't exist without some great people out there who are/were thinking up new stuff. 8) :D

Or was this thread about nylon hose? If so, GRRRR to whoever thought they were a good idea. My worst experience was with a pair of hose for which I paid $18 plus tax. They were stockings, thank goodness, so I was able to buy another package. But one leg developed a ladder/run as I was taking it out of the package. Grrrrr... :x
(By the way UK "ladder" = US "run" Meaning UK "Ladder in my tights" = us "Run in my stockings." 8) )
