I came across this competition that was held on May 24. The website says that it was televised and will be aired in North America (it was not more specific). Given the recent discussions here on the lack of televised competitions/events, this could be a good one to keep an eye out for. Something like 200 couples took part?

Wow, that's fantastic news!!! I hope they really do. Any future information would be most appreciated!

The Crystal Palace comp is one of the last Blackpool "warm-up" comps held in London the weekend before Blackpool starts. They hold it over in the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in Upper Norwood, have some great dancing, and a really nice venue.

I was there, and they certainly did have TV cameras there. It was a good event, though not many of the top pros showed up, Tim Howson and Joanne Bolton being the notable exception (No. 2 Provessional standard/modern/ballroom, whatever you prefer to call it ;) ). A lot of very good amateurs were also there!

They also sell videos for something like 20 pounds ($35, 45 incl shipping). While the standard of dancing is not the same as blackpool, you do get both the Pros and the Ams on one video. I've not seen the videos myself so can't recommend them as such, but the dancing was good!

Hi Robin, and welcome to the Dance Forums! :D

That reminds me, one other feature of the Crystal Palace cup that I really like is the trading off between styles for the Finals of the Pro events... so one Ballroom dance followed by one Latin dance, etc., until both finals are completed. Makes for a really enjoyable culmination to the days events! :D
