Competitive American style smooth previously was done in closed position the majority of the time, and open figures were used sparingly, like salt added to soup. Now, the professionals and top amateurs compete almost exclusively in open position, and American smooth looks increasingly just like latin. This is like throwing away the soup and eating the salt straight out of the shaker.

"Well, this should be short."

Actually, I skipped the 70's, 80's, 90's, etc. All I needed were the three B's: Bach, Beethovan, and Beatles, plus a few other composers. Now I'm filling out my listening pleasure with swing music, mostly all pre-70's. And Rock en Español, partly to practice my Spanish.


Copying music.

We used to have to record from vinyl (LPs, as in "Licorice Pizza") to cassette tape. The non-techie way was to play the record and place the microphone next to the speakers and praying that the outside world doesn't make a sound that the microphone catches.

Now we rip the songs we want from a CD and burn them only another CD. Probably also some way to load them into an iPod.

I had an 8-track player with my first stereo!

And I'm sorry--skip the 70s? Led Zep? Aerosmith? Kiss? Tull? Yes? Not to mention all the 60s groups that played on into the 70s. And technically, the Talking Heads started in the 70s. The 70s inaugurated the punk rock movement. It wasn't all the dark pit of disco, you know.

Plus, great films from the 70s--The Godfather 1 and 2, The Exorcist, Jaws, Murder on the Orient Express, Three Days of the Condor, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween. Not to mention great series like Dallas.

Skip the 70s. Ha!

Oh, and Broadway--Pippin, Chicago, A Chorus Line, Cats.

And don't forget the movie Fame.

Skip the 70s. Skip the 80s, yes. Not the 70s.
