View Full Version : Is it wrong to...
...do so much dancing in one day..?
Seriously, people ask me how I am and what I have been up to, and all I say is dancing!
An hour of ballet, jazz, modern and tap. Then an hour of Stretching, and an hour of yoga. I feel obsessive.
Does anyone know what I'm on about here?

Yes. I know what you mean. Wrong? Wrong? I'm not comfortable with right or wrong, in that context. Unless you're not going to work, or the rest of your life is falling apart, or you're abandoning your children in the subway tunnel, how can dancing be wrong? Whom does it hurt?
I suppose. But, do you think its sad? Thats all I do. Because I love it so much. I don't personally care what other people think, because dancing is my ambition, but sometimes I take it too far.

I should wait and let someone else answer ... but what the hey! If you think you're taking it too far, maybe you are.
My experience in life has been that people outside me have the best of intentions, but they also have agendas in terms of what they think is good for me or what I should be doing. If I listened to them, they'd all think I was very well adjusted. But I'd be miserable. I have to figure out who I am and live according. So if that means dancing 24/7, and I can meet my life obligations while dancing huge amounts, to heck with other people's judgements. They mean well, but when I'm 90 and on my death bed, I'll be accountable to God and to myself for the life I led. Chances are that the people who "knew" what I "should" be doing won't be anywhere around. I have to be true to myself.
No, I just love the feeling of knowing that the amount of effort I put into dancing, and the time WILL make me a Pro Dancer. Thats all that matters. :D

lol, there is NOTHING wrong with dancing so much in one day. i'm almost exactly like you. i do an hour of stretching, an hour or two of dancing jazz/hip hop, tap, and belly, a half hour of ballet-type dancing, and then another half hour of stretching. sometimes i feel totally obsessed with it and my friends think i'm crazy for doing so much but i love it so much... i don't think there's anything wrong with it

Hell no! I wish I had the time to spend five hours a day dancing. Well, I have the time, but since I do Pro/Am, I don't have the money. There's only so much partner stuff you can practice by yourself. :?

yeah, i know what you mean about the partner stuff. and the only reason i have so much time on my hands is cuz i'm still young and not even out of high school with a real job yet, lol :P

Wrong? Never! I would make dancing my full time career if that was viable for me at the moment. Problem then would be that I would be a workaholic!

No, you're just going through denial, Kate, feeling guilty about having so much fun dancing when you probably should be out there..WORKING!
I dance for between 5-8 hours at salsa parties, then go out to a club afterwards! Nothing wrong with that, although I'm pretty pooped the next day!

5 to 8 hours of Salsa? Sheesh, I'm pooped after the 3 hour social dances I attend. Wait till the aging process creeps up on you. ;)
I feel Pygmalion has the right idea. Ultimately you need to be your own judge. If you have balance in your life, then you are ok. Most of us are likely trying to find balance and this takes practice.
If you are feeling guilty about the amount of time you spend dancing, then likely something is causing the guilt, and this usually means something is out of balance. Guilt isn't a bad feeling, it's just a voice inside our mind telling us we are not doing something else we need to do or we have done something we shouldn't. Once we examine what it is that is really causing the guilt then we can take action to bring life back into balance. However, sometimes taking to much action will also bring us past the point of balance, and then we will be out there countering our latest action. Only with practice can we discover the balance our individual selves need.
Two words: You rock.
Seriously, you really rock. You have given me so many opinions and ideas..and frankly, they are great. Thank you for your help people.

I am older than you think! Keeping in shape with a daily exercise regimen and eating VERY properly allows me to run circles around my buddies in their 20's !!!! :D

I am not very sure diet and energy are necessarily connected... I am on no diet and I have lots of energy!!!
