17. Matej Krajcer & Pela Kralj

Nope. I checked it. It is not the same person.

Any idea why Shahov/Jasionek danced instead of Zinshtein/Izmaylova?

Maybe new USA Dance passport requirenments?

Great result for Marat and Alina, as they are usually 5th in that group. As a big fan of theirs, I am happy;)

Because of the IDSF Passport requirement...

So are such couples not permitted to dance at future Nationals, or just not permitted to rep the US at Worlds?

My understanding is the latter, just not allowed to represent the US at Worlds.

My CONCERN is that I wonder if for some elite dancers, this creates incentives to do one or more of the following:

A) represent the country/one of the countries for which the partnership does have passports (which one could do while continuing to live in the U.S.),
B) skip USA Dance Nationals,
C) turn pro.

Don't get me wrong: I think we have plenty of excellent representatives who do meet the passport qualifications. I'm not worried in that sense. As someone who very much enjoys watching multiple rounds of championship events, though, I would hate to lose even a fraction of our elite dancers.

A similar situation transpired over on the latin side.

It will be interesting to see whether this affects registration for the upcoming NQEs and Nationals.

Considering Vladislav and Milena made one cut over current US runners-up at Worlds (32nd vs. 52nd), I'd say we had pretty darn good representation there even with the new rules in effect:) Great showing by them!

I think you are confusing "great" representation with "true" representation. It is not great that the best American couple was 32nd in the world. That the National runners-up were outperformed by a "lower ranked couple" just shows that it doesn't really matter who goes because all Americans are mediocre by world standard.

Why are American couples mediocre? Why are "organic" American couples worse than mediocre? Maybe I should start a thread on it.

They are just not permitted to rep the US at Worlds, but they can most definitely can and (IMO)should still compete at Nationals to be named the top couple in the US.

Lets not forget that our current Pro world champions and finalists spent many years of their competitive life as the USA Dance champions and represented us on the World stage.

32nd best IN THE WORLD is "mediocre"???? That has me scratching my head.

I have had restaurant meals prepared by chefs who probably weren't among the 32 top chefs in the entire world, but which were still OUTSTANDING meals. I saw "Equus" on Broadway last year, and I'm not sure it is among the 32 best plays in the world, but it was still a thought-provoking night of theater. I have stayed at many very fine hotels, including the Hotel Bel Air, the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel, etc. Not sure if either is considered among the top 32 hotels in the world, but you can get some pretty decent pampering at these places.

I am proud of our U.S. couples and very much look forward to seeing where their futures take them.

I would like to be able to see the top two qualifiers at U.S. Nationals be granted the right to go to Worlds because I just think that's right. When someone has been competing in the U.S. regularly for 5+ years and has made this country his/her home, I would like to see that person allowed to represent this country. But I am happy with the representation we did have and think those couples deserve a hearty congratulations!

Honestly, that doesn't make any sense to me. USA Dance makes such a big deal about checking couples' citizenship, visa status, etc. before Nationals. So why bother having any entry restrictions to Nationals at all if you're gonna let anyone dance and just only send the top two eligibles to Worlds?
