I highly recommend the self-titled Michael Buble CD, which I bought over the weekend. It has several great songs suitable for foxtrot, including Fever, Moondance, Summer Wind and Come Fly With Me. Other songs on the CD include You'll Never Find A Love Like Mine (bolero), Crazy Little Thing Called Love (swing), Sway (cha cha) and The Way You Look Tonight (rumba).

If you're looking for other foxtrot songs, I also recommend the What Women Want soundtrack CD and the Martini Lounge CD. 8)

The preview of Come Fly with Me on his website is nice, but it's a bit on the fast side. It would be well suited to social or rhythm foxtrot or a jazzy stage show routine, but not comfortable for English or continuity American style foxtrot.

I just got that CD myself.
I adore his version of Fever, and Crazy little thing called love is the perfect Jive tempo, but the song that got me is Sway,.. Ive been hunting down a more uptempo version for ages!! I have the Julie London version and although its a Rumba , I could clearly hear a slow Cha in there.

i've had this cd for almost a year now. i love the cd (i've lent it to every dj whose venue i frequent) & the arrangements of moondance & fever in particular - the orchestration is pretty much how i would have scored it; in this case less is more - it lets michael buble come through. but IMO the orchestration lends itself more to a wcs-ish smooth lindy stylings than foxtrot IMO - especially with the opening bass line in 'fever'.

I already made a copy for my teacher. Does anyone have any favorite CD's for smooth dancing, particularly foxtrot, they'd recommend?

I already made a copy for my teacher. Sometimes it seems like the studio falls into the habit of playing the same songs, and it gets boring after a while. So, I bring in whatever I can find that sounds promising.

you might try a listen to steve tyrell's "a new standard". all but 4 (out of 17) songs are 4 minutes long or shorter. you do need to cue through a few rubato style intros though.

if you have a dj who can cue through intros (or if you prerecord a CD & then cue whilst copying), i'd also suggest diana krall. most of her songs are a little long timewise but if you cue past the intros you can bring a lot of her songs in under 4 minutes, which is still a little long, but when it's a good song people are less likely to complain. if your ability to review is limited, maybe try "when i look in your eyes" first.

which one? steve or diana?

the diana krall cd i mentioned has a decent mix, IMO. steve is primarily foxtrot stuff. if you like diana krall, you might like norah jones. i'm not into C/W at all but i recall you mentioning going to a C/W place near your home.

I adore Diana Krall. 8)

Actually, I was talking Michael Buble, but I'll at least take a listen to all the recommended tunes. I haven't checked out amazon.com lately, and I'm overdue for a field trip to Virgin Megastore. Oooh. I love that place. 8)

Thanks for the ideas Purr and tsb!

The Buble cd sounds very good, and I'm a big Krall fan! I'll stop in at my local cd place and take a listen to the other's, too.

The Buble cd sounds like one that could be played at a social with the cd player mixing up the tunes. Never have heard that done before, and if I really like the cd, maybe I'll make that suggestion to the local studio.

Sagitta: I like GR, but I think he is just flirting with the women again. (Can't say I'd blame him!) Maybe missed my mention of Krall, but hey, worse things have happened. ;)
