I was sad to read that he had danced his last dance at Blackpool in the Pro Team match.
I saw him dance in Melbourne last year and thought he and Hanna were fabulous.
I guess I will just have to rely on their instructional DVDs now!

I suspect you'd be surprised how accessible high level coaches can be. Not easy, maybe. But not impossible, either.

This can depend on the level of coach and the level of the couple as well...

Youre absolutely right on this one! Me myself at the age of...um...12 maybe, received my first foreign lessons from couches like Adrian Britchard, Graham Oswick or Michael Stylianos. when i think it afterwards,i gotta admit that i wasnt ever near to a typical dancer! I had few skills, not sure if even motivation, and im sure: no passion! Still i have had great teaching since that age when i started with them, and ofcourse when it comes to this very day, the level of my dance has increased like wow!
I gotta admit that these high level-coaches can be "strange", in certain point of view but after getting known them better, you see that they are nothing but great persons, with so much knowledge to share! I would say that any kinda dancer at any level could(and should) train himself with as top coach as possible, it can never be destructive, and trust me: they wont have bad attitude agains anyone who hasnt bad attitude agains them! They are earning for teaching, because of you they even have a job!
Ps. Jukka (haapalainen) and Sirpa teach in our hall about 10 times a year, and because we have only few adult/youth couples, they have allways given lessons to the smaller and younger people, which has guaranteered a good "children to the adult" development: our team has over three times more finnish championships than the next best team. It is very important to us, that we have jukka and sirpa because eventhough the children could be ready for foreign lessons, theres always a problem with language; we start learning english at school at the time we are about 10 years old.
Pps. Paul was a great dancer, huge respect towards him! I hope Hanna will still appear on the floor, anyone has any info about this?
Ok, sorry for long post, if you cant understand what im trying to tell, please ask immediately, because of my weak english, thanks!

Welcome to the forums, antti.
Your perspective is really good. You've been blessed in the great coaches who've come into your dance career. That's excellent. :D
(Your English is perfectly easy to understand, btw. :D )

Great to have you with us Antti! :D
Here's a photo of Jukka and Sirpa (http://www.dance-forums.com/album/showphoto.php?photo=47&password=&sort=1&cat=2&page=3) I took at their retirement show at the German Open two years ago in case you haven't seen it yet. You're very lucky to have had access to people like them and Graham from such a young age... all people who seem genuinely interested in and dedicated to the ongoing development of dance and dancers.
I'm looking forward to your future contributions here at the Dance Forums and, just so you know, your English is just fine! :D

Their farewell in the program certainly seems to leave open the possibility that Hanna will continue competing. Some excerpts:
"... Once you have experienced dance it will be with you forever...."
"We have therefore decided that this year's team match will be our last performance together before moving onto the challenges that a life in dance will bring."

Not at all Antti. We do have more members here from the U.S. than anywhere else but if you look through the memberlist (http://www.dance-forums.com/memberlist.php) you'll actually see that we have members from all over. (Two of our moderators live in Australia and one lives in England just to give you an idea.)
