Do you have a dance resolution for 2010? If so, what is it (or are they)? And how will you make it/them a reality in the New Year?

Not really a resolution, but I have a goal for this year to fix some recurring issues I have for good.
My resolution is simple: to stop whining about why my dance situation isn't perfect, and just dance more. We had a lesson before the holidays with the nearest standard teacher -- a three hour drive -- and I was thrilled to discover that he's very good. So we'll make that drive periodically, and we'll make up a regular practice schedule and stick to it, and since I generally want to practice more than my husband does, I'll stop worrying about being dependent on him for my dancing and just get myself out of my chair and practicing alone when I need to. We were basically treading water for the last year. This year, we will improve.

Actually learn a Smooth Syllabus... also to work out connection/movement issues with the partners I'll be dancing with now and in the foreseeable future, and maybe to finally work out leads and correct movement for heel turns and the natural spin turn.
Hopefully we get some Standard pro's in for workshops and privates, Smooth pro's would be nice too, but I'll settle for more than two hours of Standard workshops in the semester.

Continue technique improvements; emphasize performance and connection aspects of the dancing; increase strength and stability on the floor; and enjoy the dancing!

I honestly don't know. My dance practice is sort of like... the way in college I took good notes in class but never studied them so only made average grades. I start with good intentions and don't carry through. So I guess I'll make my resolution something simple: Practice between lessons.

Finally wrap my head around a few of the principles introduced to me by my coaches and implement them proficiently in my dancing. Keep working on technique. Keep fostering and strengthening the connection between my Latin, Standard and American style partners.

IF I am blessed enough with a great partnership then I would want to win some competition and elevate to the next level.
Otherwise, I will continue my lesson and practice so when an opportunity arises I will be more than ready to take it on.
I have to overcome my procrastination with latin. Not that I am not practising or anything but I NEED to do more than 30 mins of latin at any one time. That is about as much attention span I can muster.
Standard however is a different story I can practice for 3 hours solo non stop !

My last year's resolution was simply to dance more. We were fairly regularly dancing three times a week for the second half of the year, so I consider that resolution fulfilled.
This year I want to compete more. If we manage to make it to 5-6 competitions, I'll consider that goal achieved (since so far we've done 0-2 a year).
My resolution is to cultivate a circle of real life dance friends (cyberspace dance friends are also great :)), so that I don’t drop out completely if DP actually does end up relocating.

I also want to quit thinking negatively regarding my situation.
Maybe not quit .... but at least significantly reduced the frequency of it and replaces the negative thoughts with more positive and productive outlook.
On the dancing front I want to achieve the look and technique that is comparable with most girls at my studio so I dont feel like such a 'beginner' all the time. Considering most girls are high ranking level 5 people it will be an overtly ambitious project. However, I am working and being coached extremely hard to achieve this.
I want to be able to dance next to them in practice class and fit right in.
I know I am vain but hey looking at better dancers sometimes motivates me a lot !

Several. I would like to find an am. partner after 3 years of searching. sigh.
I want to, at least attempt, a new discipline. I hope, this year, the furloughs will stop and I will have dancing money again.

I resolve to finally start writing down notes and comments from instructors down on paper... in my brand new journal won on DF auctions too!! :D Because back of receipts and napkins just don't cut it anymore ;)
I also resolve to dance more, so I can lose the 15lbs I gained from not dancing much in the last 2 years! (This one is tricky harder considering my next point...)
I need to make sense of my next step in dance. Last year was a bad year, I was partnerless for a good half of it, and in desperation I partnered up with possibly the worst partner out there for me in terms of skills, attitude, schedule, personality, etc. It pretty much sucked all the passion I have for dancing. This year, new partner search!.. But complicated with the fact that my PhD qualifier exams are coming up in summer, so I won't have as much time to dedicate to dance as I or any potential partner would like... So I guess, take it easy for now and recharge, and then explode back on the dance scene during the second half of the year?

I'm so glad that the journal now has a happy home -- and to be used for dance notes -- that warms my heart immensely!
I wouldn't be surprised if you find you love having it all in one place. I love referencing my dance notes, re-reading them for various reasons -- and it is much less stressful when you know exactly where your notes are! Wonderful goal and I wish you the best with it and your other goals!

I don't make finding a partner as a goal because I know it will just frustrates me.
Well, I go to socials, classess and ask around (peers and coaches) for available partners but for most part it is really beyond my control.
I think if I do find a good partner it will be more of a blessing than an achievement.
I try to be as nice and helpful as a person too as I strongly believe in karma.
Hopefully things will work out for me before I really get too disillusioned.
I remember the quote from a Rocky movie: 'It is not how hard you hit, it is how hard you get hit and still stand up.' (or something like that)
Well, that is my goal for 2010, despite any knock backs, rejections, insults, put downs, lack of partner, frustrations, injuries, and other negativities I need to keep my chin up and progressing forward. Hopefully, it will make me a winner at the end.

Use the power in my feet and legs more and my back less (I was with a coach for 3 years who emphasised the back muscles instead of the legs).
Also, stay with my current teacher for *at least* one year (no worries, dude - love ya). I switched teachers three times in 2009 and studios twice! Oy vey!

Find the nerve to compete in a national competition. And hold my own.
