Couldn't figure out one appropriate title, so I decided to use several.

A few votes:

1. Lifetime achievement award: Sir Lawrence Olivier for maintaining an extremely high standard of male beauty throughout his whole life.

Runner up: Omar Sharif

2. Early twentieth century metrosexual beauty: Leslie Howard (see the Scarlet Pimpernel or Gone with the Wind for source material   )

Another vote:

Candle in the wind award: James Dean

Interesting choices Pygmalion. I probably wouldn't have listed them initially. Being a guy this is seems to be difficult for me.

Robert Redford and Paul Newman seem obvious. Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, Errol Flynn, James Dean, the younger Marlon Brando, and certainly Clint Eastwood make sense, too. Perhaps Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. More modern picks could include Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Bruce Willis, and Harrison Ford.

What about athletes like Bruce Jenner, Joe Namath, Joe Montana, Carl Lewis, and that guy who plays shortstop for the Yankees. (GR likely knows his name.) ;) Oh yeah...Derek Jeter.

And what about Humphrey Bogart, Warren Beatty, the younger Elvis Presley, Ali, and and the younger Frank Sinatra.

Rico (played by Robby Rosa) from "Salsa!" of course  !

*sorry, couldn't help myself  *

I have a list, but they are not considered 'timeless classic' or anything.... so I will keep quiet  .

If you like Rico, ShyDancer, come out with us soon as there's a hot visiting salsero in town who has a lot of Rico in him (IMHO  )!

Ok, my list (no particular order):

Heath Ledger (that song in 'Ten things I hate about you' :D )
Johnny Depp
Antonio Banderas
Vince Colosimo (local actor, who's married to my friend from Uni, actress Jane Hall. Lucky girl :P )
John Stamos
This guy from '7th Heaven'.....don't know his name
Joe Lando (I think that's his name :? remember 'Dr Quinn Medicine Woman'...? Her love interest. My non-dancing ex looks just like him)

These are mainly just guys I find attractive. I didn't really take acting ability etc into account eventhough a few on the list are actually not bad.

 Did someone say Denzel Washington   Where's my smelling salts.

Whilst not 'handsome' and seeing as women see beauty in the soul rather than physical attraction  I am also going to nominate Morgan Freeman. To me, he comes across in his movies/interviews as very serene/at peace.

Denzel is beautiful on the inside, too, it seems. He's still married to the same woman he married long before he became famous. Now THAT's a beautiful man. Rare, too.

Yankee shortstop--do you mean Derek Jeter? My favorite Yankee shortstop ever was Bucky Dent, but he's a little before the time of most of you children on this Forum!

I also have an award for Olivier--Most Grossly Overrated Actor of All Time

And for Brando--Biggest Disappointment After Early Career

For Glenn Close--Most Successful Actress With Only One Affect

DeNiro--Least Compelling When Doing Anything Nonviolent

Wolfgang Petersen--Vision Least Likely to Replace Homer's for Posterity

Julia Roberts--Smartest, Prettiest Actress Who Really Isn't Any Good

Albert Finney--Working Too Hard on the Concept Award

Uma Thurman--Right Place at the Right Time Award

Richard Gere--Keep Him Away from My Newly Come of Age Daughter Award

Patrick Stewart--Most Accomplished Actor Who's Least Likely to Move You

Helena Bonham Carter--Why Do I Not Find Her More Attractive Award

Hey. I didn't say he was a good actor. I said he was cute from his thirties into his eighties. That's his biggest accomplishment, if you ask me.

Why are women being mentioned in the sexiest men's thread? Enquiring minds would like to know

pygmalion

Actually, I think GR needs to start a new thread -- the overrated actors thread. That thread would go on for pages, I'm sure!

Oh, okay. I thought GR was just trying to stain this thread the same way the sexiest women's one was stained/digressed

I would have to say Pierce Brosnan and Hugh Jackman would be my current top two.

pygmalion
06-07-2004, 06:12 PM
Both cuties, I must admit.

Hugh Jackman is more talented than I thought. He hosted the Tony Awards (Broadway plays) last night. He sang, danced, and emceed. Hmm. There are many, many who would not have done as well. I'd only seen him in mediocre movies before this, so I had no idea that he actually has some talent. 8)

I'm glad the rest of the world is realising that Hugh Jackman is so much more than just an actor. Aussies have known about him for years!

Sidney Poitier
Sean Connery
George Clooney

Again drawing a blank. Many more, just can't think of them.....

Y

Gee, GR ...

Just love them... I think Al Pacino is the greatest... he's sooo sexy, if you ask me... far sexier than Brad Pitt or other 'cuties'...

Not to mention his acting skills...

Bucky Dent! Yes, I remember him. If my memory is correct, isn't he the one who hit the game winning home run in a tie break game at the end of one season to determine whether the Red Sox or Yankees would go to the playoffs? Like back in the late 70s early 80s? (And thus the Yankess went again.)

ShyDancer

So many catergories...even more Men

I have a hard time with the sexiest category.... I notice you all put in movie stars... But how about Jason Roditis and David Feast? Id have to say they top my list right now!
And how about Patrick Swayze from his Dirty Dancing time? He may be close to 50 (if not already) but he just has something in that movie!

As for acting ability.... I dont know, I dont read a lot into movies and I dont watch many "deep" movies or classics either, Im more into comedies and romance, some action...How about Colin Farell in Phone Booth? I thought he was pretty good in that, or SWAT? But My judgement could be clouded..
Johnny Depp in Pirates Of The Carribbean was excellent...he just "was" Captain Jack Sparrow.

Someone Timelss...Pierce Brosnan or George Clooney. I know they are popular choices, but for them to be about twice my age and for me to still think they arent bad to look at...

Most Tragic cutie...have to say Robby Rosa, that awful awful 80s hair!

That's him. Fabulous athlete! He and Greg Nettles (on 3rd) were vying for the most incredible infielding throughout that series in--can't remember which, 78 or 79?

My male nominations would include...(in no particular order)

1. Sir Anthony Hopkins--I LOVE his work...from Titus Andronicus to
2. Sean Connery--my god, does the man EVER become "unsexy"?
3. Paul Newman--just fabulous in Cool Hand Luke
4. Robert Redford
5. Clark Gable--sigh....
6. Audie Murphy--not the greatest actor, but a good looking man.
7. Errol Flynn--again, sigh...
8. Marlon Brando--he may look horrible now, but my god...he was gorgeous when he was young.

Present awesome men...
9. Johnny Depp...AND a fabulous actor, I appreciate how much he gets into his roles and the care he takes choosing roles.
10. Edward Norton...another great actor.
