UPenn's Clover Star Classic 2010!

The University of Pennsylvania Latin and Ballroom Dance team is delighted to invite you to the 5th Annual Clover Star Classic, which will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Clover Star Classic is the annual competition run by the University of Pennsylvania team that attracted over 600 competitors last year. We are expecting an even higher attendance this year!

We are very excited about our new venue: University City High School, 3601 Filbert St., Philadelphia, PA 19104-2691. Limited overnight housing will be available upon request.

Clover Star Classic Competition Coordinators

Many of you may have wondered about why you're not hearing about Clover Star Classic 2011 yet. The answer is: we've had lots of trouble finding space that is appropriate for our budget. Our deadline for finalizing everything with regards to space and making a decision as to whether or not Clover Star Classic will be held is November 15. Right now it seems like we need to crack down and go for the more expensive option just to hold it.

I thought of reaching out to the dance forums community to see if any of you may be able to quickly put us in contact with some place that has appropriate space. If you can find any space that is big enough to accommodate 500 competitors, that can offer us a Saturday or a Sunday in late January or early February, and that does not cost more than $5000, please contact the organizers.

Since Laura hasn't replied, I'll go with: it's still vaguely in the realm of possibility (for March and not Feb). There are some issues with dates as Penn's spring break is in March and Wendi Davies' Spring Fling is the last weekend in March so we are trying not to conflict/overlap her comp.

[Also Penn's ballroom team board restructured due to the team president stepping down- Laura is now acting president, Jana replaced her as competition co-coordinator. This restructuring though, isn't relevant to the comp location roadblock.]

We're cancelled for this year 2011 due to conflicts/space etc. Hopefully we will be able to revive at some future date.

Apologies for responding so late. Here's the update, officially also on the website (PennBallroom):

It is with great regret that we must inform you the annual Clover Star Classic will not be held this year. Unfortunately, we were unable to find appropriate space during the regular time period in which Clover Star Classic is held. With numerous great dance events on the calendar this semester, we decided not to hold the competition later because we did not want to conflict with other collegiate competitions.
However, we are working our hardest to bring you a fantastic event next year. Please look forward to future emails from us as we announce the date for next year's competition in February 2012.
