View Full Version : Giving roses/flowers to men

Something Pygmalion said in the Beautiful Friends thread tweaked my enquiring mind
Guys, have you ever received flowers from a female? Care to share why and how did it make you feel?
Ladies, have you ever done this? Why and how did the guy react?
I have given a single rose to the boy children of friends and close (platonic) male friends. It was very funny and sweet to see their reaction. They were like: No one has ever done this before
I did it because not being a drinker, my knowledge of wine is lousy and therefore, I thought, hmmm, going for dinner or it's the child's birthday, how about something 'different' Plus, receiving flowers is always 'such great fun'

I had a dozen long stemmed red roses delivered to work for my former long-term SO. He hated it. Said all the attention embarrassed him. :?

I can't say I've given flowers per se, but I've certainly bought pot plants that have flowers on them for guys.

A few times. It's a lovely surprise.
Unfortunately, most of the women I've dated either disliked flowers, or were mildly chemosensitive and couldn't tolerate them :-(

A couple times. The first time I had this big grin on my face, "like a Cheshire cat"? (That's what I was told afterwards...) She got such a kick out of it that she did it a couple more times, always unexpectedly. :)

Very rarely have I received flowers from a woman.
Yet when it happens I'm flipped!

lol, one of my old friends used to dance before he moved. at every dance concert i'd have a flower for him and he'd have a flower for me. he loved it... every time i gave him one, his face would light up. he claimed it was his favorite part about dance concerts :P

Salsachinita,
A word of advice my dear, if I was you I would refrain from mentioning that you have given Marijuana plants (aka Wackee Tobackee) to your friends. Or is this legal in Austraila?
In any event, at least you did give them plants with flowers, I've heard tell that those are the best ones.

Pot Plant = Plants that grown in terracotta/plastic/etc pots (as in container)

I have never sent flowers, but sent a plush horny devil to a guy I was going out with one Valentines Day. He hated it and insisted that I had to pick him up from work because he wasn't carrying it on the train home! :x
I got a token bunch of flowers back from him, but the sentiment was just not there. Needless to say the relationship did not last!

I don't know, if a guy gave me cash it would buy me more dance lessons! That would show to me that he knows what is close to my heart and prepared to help me achieve my goals.
What are flowers gonna do but die in a week or so??

I'd still prefer flowers to cash... It's a different matter if a guy buys me dance lessons or take me out to a dance event instead of giving me cash, of course. Dance as a gift would be just as romantic as flowers.
What are flowers gonna do but die in a week or so??
A dance only lasts for 3-4 minutes, but a good dance with a favourite lead still makes me happy.

I'd say it's the forethought that's so special... just having it occur to someone is nice... and then following up to make it happen-- flowers or no, it shows that someone cares
Me? I've never romantically given or recieved flowers.

So isn't your birthday coming up? Post an address. 8)
Personally, I think gifts should be tailored to the individual receiving them. If a gal were to give me flowers, while I would appreciate them, it would be a sign that she doesn't either know me or understand me very well.
The thought and sentiment is nice, but flowers would hardly be special to me as a guy.

They may hardly be special to you 'as a guy' but I will bet my last dollar that you, as tj, would be very flattered if you did receive flowers, especially if it was from a good female friend  :D

I've gotten flowers for graduation and when the play I directed opened (way back when) ... I can't help but to think it's different.

  Okay, let me explain. I am shocked, but I shouldn't be, that GR remembered your birthday. It is lovely that it made your day - it made me smile  because I remembered something GR wrote me whereby he put together most, if not all the snipets of information he had gleaned about me. So, it strikes me that it is a typical GR thing, remembering the 'important' stuff, like birthdays

Yes. when I gave my SO flowers, it was because I love flowers. He doesn't.
Ever read "The Five Love Languages?" It's pretty good, for self-help pop psychology. It says that everyone processes love in different ways, some through giving gifts, some through time spent together, some through acts of service, etc. The twist is that most people give love in THEIR preferred form, whatever it is, whether that's how their SO's process love or not. So the SO may never receive the love you send. That's what happened with me and the flowers. I sent flowers, because I'm a giver/receiver of gifts, to show love. But he is an acts of service kind of guy, so he never received the message. :? Pretty profound stuff.

Tis a part of our self-centered natures... :( I look at a person's time as being the most valuable thing that they can give. How a person gives their time to me is what I appreciate, is what touches my soul.

I agree with you pygmalion ......I prefer something that shows they have been listening to me, remembering something I said and bought a gift by going on that.
Like my Mother this past thursday...I was complaining to her that I didnt have the right pair of shoes to go with my dress for my upcoming medal presentation night, She took me and my sister out and bought aus both new shoes :D :D Perfect Gift! What girl wouldnt want new shoes?

LOL! I'm sorry, i totally misunderstood you.
And you, me. :)
What I meant was since we live together, whatever flowers are given to either of us will end up on *our* kitchen table, since it's the only horizontal surface in the house not filled with junk. Therefore, if I gave him flowers, I would, in effect, be giving them to myself as well.
And he probably will give me flowers, in which case I'd have a dillemma of where to put them. I might even make him take his junk off of one of the other horizontal surfaces! Not very nice of me to repay him like that for giving me flowers, but I have to put them *somewhere*!
I'm babbling.
I'll stop.
