 Okay, seems I have a reputation of being weird to live upto, thanks to the loveable Sabor

So! What inanimate ie, non human 'dance partners' have you had? And I don't mean stuff/props that you have used as part of a performance, but what you might have picked up at home or whilst out socially, and just started dancing with, because you felt like?

MacMoto (I think it was) mentioned a fake tree in the middle of a dancefloor at a club she has been too. I know, if I am honest,  I would have found an excuse to dance with that tree before the night was over

Oh, and in this case, handbags don't count, unless it was a spontenous act or moment of insanity :D

I find that my kitchen bench is a fabulous Jive partner.....

My broom and mop also make interesting partners for practicing breakways in NV

For some of the open-position moves in Lindy class, the guy is supposed to provide his partner with support as solid as he can make it. So we do a kind of Zen meditation: "Be the door knob."

Our instructor converted his garage into a dance studio at home. In order to protect the wall against the car crashing into to, the builders had installed a 5-inch (approx) metal pipe sticking straight up out of the floor and filled with concrete. One girl at the house-warming party was making good use of it to practice her swivels and, being the wise ... guy that I am, I complimented our host on his having installed a better door knob.

And a couple scenes in "Shag: The Movie" shows them practicing their Carolina Shag moves pulling against a towel or belt looped around a post.

I don't have any inanimate partners. Though I'll improvise some step-work with our dog (Chihuahua-terrier mix); drives him crazy.

I usually have an imaginary dance partner at home as well. But sometimes I've had inanimate people as dance partners, too. ;)

  Inanimate *PEOPLE?!?!* Tell me, how did you get into the "Thriller" video, because I would have *loved* to be there! (*frowns* Even though that was... *counts* Five years before I was born... Hrm...)

I have yet to meet a mop or broom that I've connected deeply with. The search goes on! 8)

lol...I didn't say dead people (besides that would be rather gross).

you know...those people that you sometimes dance with that just aren't into the song or style of dance or whatever, but they have accepted your invitation...and it comes out in their dull approach to the dance. Sometimes they seem inanimate.

I used an old computer mouse with a knot tied halfway through the cord to represent the girl's head so I could make sure I was learning & practicing these overhead arm pretzel tricks right for 1 disco and 1 ecs performance. The knot was her head, the mouse was her right hand, and the plugin side of the cord was her left hand. They gave me video tapes of previous shows, so I had to analyze them to figure out what in the world was going on with the arms then go back to the studio & do it.

:grins: I had a feeling that that was what you meant. =^__^= No, "dead" dancers don't seem like much fun. Besides, how can one dance without being happy?? :?

You guys are lucky; imaginary leaders are not very good at leading at all...

At Edie's ladies styling class, we practised body movements and footworks using chairs. I reported the proceedings to my male classmates the following day ("we practised body waves by rubbing our chest up and down against the back of the chair, then we practised rubbing our foot slowly up a chair leg..."). They thought Edie was very mean not to use human male volunteers instead of chairs.

Hmm. A belt hooked to a doorknob. Exercise balls/handheld weights. A hula hoop.

  No, not the Lime-Green socks! No one can make them follow!! They are simply too wild! They were born to lead!
