Using photos of 'famous' dancers to promote your event/dance

Should the use of photos of 'famous' dancers to promote a workshop or event be allowed, when that famous dancer isn't going to be anywhere near there?

I was on the prowl just now :lol: for workshops/events/weekenders in Europe and came across a website, that was in the native European language. They have a photo of a famous couple on the front page and some text and a date. I worked out what the date was, and that I had to 'click here' to read more. I am taken to another page where, there is a photo of yet another 'famous dancer' and in the text (which is still in the native language) I still do not see the names of either of these 'famous dancers' :( I see other names, but not theirs. :cry:

I was a bit disappointed to say the least! I was ready to cancel tea with the Queen so that I could go to this event. :evil: :lol:

I know that it isn't easy to regulate these things but, hmmmmmmmm.

PS. I am being careful in the use of the word famous because whilst I know that these dancers are wellknown by a lot of people, they may not be known by beginners or others who may not dance that particular style (On1, On2, cuban, LA etc etc).

It seems fairly unethical to me to use the photos of people who won't be there to promote an event. The only exception to this that comes to mind is if the people in the picture were at the event last year and the photo is labeled accordingly, i.e. showing the caliber of instructor involved last time.

hmmm... it is very unethical to use names of people who will not attend the event! sometimes this is done in Romania, when it comes to concerts... they use names of local stars who do not attend the event!
This is why the number of attendants to such events is on the decrease...

In the US, it`s actionable. A promotor can be sued for that.

More common is when promoters use pictures of unknown models on their flyers. Most of the pretty girls you see on club flyers aren`t paid or the pictures are used without permission! :evil:
