View Full Version : Are "ordinary" sanctioned usa dance comps going extinct?

Prompted by the discussion of njdsc spring fling not granting points, it seems from the usa dance competition calendar that almost all of the non-nationals qualifier events have the ** denoting that they are not fully in compliance with the rulebook for sanctioned events and won't award points.

What ever happened to the idea of regular sanctioned competitions?

If this is a general trend it seems quite unhealthy. For a points system to work, you need to have a healthy ecosystem of participating competitions to fill it out and create a meaningful volume of data.

Perhaps someone is thinking that all decent comps should now be NQE's... but unless you are willing to have massive duplication (such as letting all 3 njdsc comps plus mac all be nqe's in the same year) this is incompatible with maintaining a healthy ecosystem of comps to support the point system.

Or perhaps the rules pertaining to sanctioned competitions have become so onerous that what we are seeing is a mild form of opt-out nullification and its time to have a more open debate about what aspects are essential vs. merely desirable.

Perhaps Wendi just didn't want to go through the whole sanctioning process for Spring Fling, for a comp that's likely to be on the smaller side?

The DSC is apparently trying to come up with a solution for the proliferation of NQEs.
