Any recommendations for International Foxtrox music? Looking for something a little on the slow side but not REALLY slow. Also, want something that is NOT jazzy. TIA.

I already looked at the list on Ballroomdancers . com and nothing jumped out at me.

P.S. To me, the jazzy foxtrots seems better for American Foxtrot.

Hmmm. That's kinda a tough one, since the vast majority of slowfox music tends to be jazzy in nature. Here's a crazy idea. How about the Titanic theme by Celine Deon? Makes a good love story, if you're choreographing something.

Agree that slow fox music tends to have jazz(y) characteristics by nature. I do have one on my practice disk -- "Something Better To Do" by Olivia Newton-John -- that is a very danceable 27 bpm, and I don't think of it as particularly jazzy.

Well there's the kind of jazzy that says step, point, and snap your fingers... and then there's saxophone in a smokey bar jazzy that invites you to do extended waves around the room...

Yeah, I'm looking for the second type.

No, definitely on the wrong track here.

You're right, that's crazy! :-) For a show piece, maybe, but I find great benefit in dancing to music that is actually "of the style"; for example, classical viennese waltzes just bring out the character of the dance, same for the other dances too. Tempo alone shouldn't be the defining characteristic of whether a song fits.

How about the original tempo version of "Speaking of Happiness"? It's a little slower than the version off the Ultimate Ballroom CD.

Give "Sugisarishi Eien no Hibi" by Coba a try.

Sammy Davis, Bye Bye Blackbird. If it's a good enough tempo for Pino (see his showdance on YT), it's good enough for me. And it's jazzy and elegant, both. And on iTunes. If you want slower, there's an Ella performance of Oh So Nice that, after the intro, is divinely, deliciously jazzy elegant FT. But slow; good for making sure you have great control.

Also, take a listen to many of Jo Stafford's versions of standards. She was often accompanied by Paul Weston, who wrote mushy-gorgeous arrangements.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give "Sugisarishi Eien no Hibi" a try. But, do I really have the guts to dance to the same song as Luca : )

"Unforgettable" with Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole, perhaps?

Two good ones I've only recently learned the names of:

A Walkin' Thing by Benny Carter (aka, saxophone in a smokey bar)

Mademoiselle Chante le Blues by Patricia Kaas (was really in back in 2005, maybe overplayed by now)

:winces: I've gotten used to pushing the Skip button on it, as at 27 MPM, it's the slowest slowfox on my mp3 player.

Doesn't this song sound more like West Coast swing?

I've heard a beautiful one that I think is sung in Brazilian Portuguese. I'd recommend it if I knew the name, but I don't even have a youtube link or anything. It's a long shot, but does anyone know the song I'm talking about?

As a Foxtrot lover, those were some of my favorites by Frank, until... "Call Me". Check out Frank's version of this. Smooth, cool, jazzy.
