I am about to order my first pair of Standard shoes and unfortunately since I live in Vegas, there are no store that sell Supadance here. I decided on the size to order but I am not sure whether to order wide or not. How do Supadance standard shoes run? Are they generally wider or narrower. I have an average foot except my big toe is large making my toe box wide. Opinions on whether I should order wide or regular?
Note: I wear an 8-8.5 U.S. street shoe. Ordering a size 5.5 U.k. supadance style 1008.
Thanks!

I wear that model, for size 9 US I get size 7 UK. 5.5 UK may be too small for you, I would recommend you try 6.5. My foot is average width, so I get regular, and later on when the shoe loosens I also need shoe straps (trasparant elastics that go over the shoe to hold it in place).
If you order from worldtone, you can return the shoe as loong as you've tried it on the carpet.

Agree that you shouldn't get 5.5UK... that is the size I wear and I have 7.5-8 feet US... 5.5 would be way small!!!

I swear by Supadance myself, but I'd be hesistant to buy shoes without trying them on first (assuming I haven't previously bought a similar style by that company before). Perhaps you could consider buying another reputable brand that's available in your area, and then visit a Supadance vendor at the next Vegas comp? You can always buy online once you know you love the fit.
As a matter of interest, I wear a 7.5-8 US street shoe and a 5W 1012 Supadance courtshoe. The wide is because I have duck-feet...

The only reason i decided on a 5.5 u.k. is that I tried on Supadance latins and I wore s 5 U.K., so when i wrote to Supadance they told me to order .5 higher. The size 6 u.k. latins were really big. I think I just have very odd shaped feet.

When the shoes stretch, do they usually stretch width wise or length wise? or both? I ordered tan satin because I was told satin stretches a bit less (plus i need them for comps.) Are they wide in the front or wide in the back or are they wide all over? Is the wide REALLY wide or just slightly wide? Thanks for answering all of my newbie questions. :D

For the latin's were they open toe or closed toe. Standards will be closed toe so maybe you don't want to go small. What's the return policies or do you have other dancers that have a similar shoe size u can try on?

The latins were closed. They were pointed but closed. I ordered the shoes last night and it is taking everything I have not to write to the website and ask them to change my size...again. I ordered a 5.5 wide. I ordered the wide because I have a large big toe, it's weird. lol. Cross your fingers XX! I ordered the from dance-shop.com because they were so cheap ($104.00) I can return them if they are un-worn.

I go down a whole size in latin (4.5 uk) so that is not abnormal... I would strongly recommend you consider getting the 6 UK because in standard shoes you cannot have your toes hanging over the edge of the shoe like in latin...

I have the Supadance 1008 style in a wide, I have wide feet and i do feel they fit better then most. They are wider mostly in the front and they stretch better than other shoes i've worn. I've had them for abotu 2 months and don't feel at all that they have overstretched. I'd recommend them.

I have a size 8D US foot and I would definitely say get the wide--I have 1008s in W and regular and the W is much more comfortable.

I changed my order to a 6 regular. Wow I am indecisive! Hopefully they fit. Cross your fingers XX!

Hi Vegas, I know you've already purchased your shoes, but I just wanted to answer your questions based on my experiences. :)
I like to wear satin when I compete/practice and leather when I dance socially. The leather does tend to stretch more, and I like the looser comfort when I'm out socially. That said, I've only worn Latin sandals in leather; my smooth/standard has always been satin.
The Supadance standard shoes are very firm when you first get them (though I'm not sure what the elastic models feel like). But they mold nicely to the foot and stretch across the ball of the foot over time. There's a bit of give in the heel over time, but just enough to prevent blisters (I wear the strap model). By the time they're ready for the trash, the shoes feel like slippers.
I have wider feet than average (and a narrow heel) and find the 5W to be just right. With all of the pressure on the "ball bone", I like that extra bit of width.
As a matter of interest, you may want to also consider using heel protectors. All those toe releases wear down the heel of your shoe and next thing you know, you're dancing on an uneven heel and shoe nail is coming through. Although you can replace the heel tip, I don't like how the shoe repair places in my neighbourhood do it. Heel protectors are a $5 investment for your $100+ shoes.

I'll disagree with Piggles on one point, or maybe amend--the shank in a Supadance will NEVER break down. In fact you can't even break it on purpose (I tried the way you'd break the shank of a pointe shoe, but I believe Supadance uses steel.) I had to quit wearing their Latin shoes because the shanks never flexed and never softened. The top may stretch a bit (satin less than leather) but the sole/shank never will.

Sorry - guess I wasn't clear! The shank of the shoes are firm as can be (I've also heard they use steel shanks), but the fabric around the toes and heel stretches widthwise overtime. The fabric in the heel doesn't give too much, but it does soften eventually.

I haven't had satin shoes stretch much, which is why I'm tempted to try leather (if I could find appropriate Latin and/or Smooth shoes in leather.) The ones I've seen look much softer than the satin.
I've always kind of wished for a split-sole court shoe. I feel so clunky in the 1008s because they don't flex at all. It's like wearing a skate only on a slim heel.

Awesome - Way to go (on the shoes I mean)! Good luck with your recovery.
There are show gauges on the internet that can assist in the conversion process. But you always have to be very cautious as it is hard to return and exchange i=without too much expense.
