I was under a rock during the recent World Ten Dance Championships in Melbourne, but just heard that my favorite dance couple, Misa Cigoy and Anastazija Novojilova were the winners.

That's great news. I think they are the best overall dance couple in the world and deserve this very much. The way they work with the audience is beyond description, and their range of dance expression is outstanding.

Were any DF'ers at the comp?

The previous champions were Alain Doucet and Anik Joliceur, correct?

Nope. Misa Cigoy and Anastazija Novojilova are amateurs, while Alain Doucet and Anik Joliceur are pros.

Are all of the results posted somewhere?

(And under a rock, adwiz? I think you're being just a little unkind to yourself. There's a lot going on in the world of dancesport. Keeping up with all of it might be possible, but it's not easy. :? :) )

Hang on, aren't the World Ten Dance Championships in December? They are being run in conjuction with the Australian Dancesport Championships.

Have I slipped into a time warp and no-one told me?? :?

World Ten Dance December, 12, 2004, is what I found when I googled. That explains why it slips under the radar. It's right in the middle of the holiday season.

Is it televised, anywhere in the world (including satellite?) Anybody know?

Weren't the last World 10-Dance Championships just held at the Snow Ball in Vancouver last February? Or maybe I'm confused and thinking of the World 10-Dance Championships that were in February 2003? The years go by so fast...but that Russian couple Marat and Alina won then. They were AWESOME.

But it hasn't happened yet! How can anyone have won it?? :?

     For a minute there I was worried that there was a major comp that I missed out on seeing!
It may be the qualifying of couples from individual countries that you heard about, I for the life of me cant remember who the Aussie couple are...

The Ten Dance champs are most definantly in Melbourne in December www.worldchampionshipaustralia.com

Im going to be attending that as well as the Aus open that is running the same weekend as dancin_feet said. Cant wait!

Now I'm confused as well. I thought the next one was in Melbourne at the end of this year, but my daughter pointed out a news report that showed them as having won somewhere just recently allowing them to hold that title.

I assumed it was exactly the same title but there could be a minor difference which would explain the confusion. After all, one would think that the title is given out annually rather than every two years, but there could be two separate competitions where that title is earned. I'll have to get more details.

Someone needs to google World Ten Dance 2003, and see if we can find the last years' results.

Why, oh why, do people always wait for ME to do the googling?

Here's what I found. The IDSF World Ten Dance Championships for 2003 were held at the Snowball Classic, February 21- 23, 2003 and won by Marat Gimaev and Alina Bassiouk of Russia.

http://www.snowballclassic.com/event/results_td.php

Now, I'll go google for 2004 results. I guess the event in December will nominally be the 2005 event, even though it will be held in 2004. See? Everybody can be right, in situations like this. Life is cool. 8) :D

Warning: the web site is SLOW in loading, but here's a link to all the results. It was held in Szombathely, Hungary, June 12, 2004. Winners? Misa Cigoj and Anastazija Novojilova, of Slovenia. Isn't it nice when nobody has to be wrong? 8) :D

OK so what's the difference between the IDSF World Cup 10 Dance and the World 10 Dance Championships in Melbourne this year? The emphasis that has been put on this event made me think that it was THE World 10 Dance event, only held once a year and akin to the Olympics of Dancesport.

So how come there are a few of them?? Is the one in Hungary a lead-up event or something?

Now I'm confused again. :?

Hmm. I assumed that, once the host country is chosen, they have leeway in terms of the dates, so even though there's only one event "per year" the dates might move around enough to have two events within one calendar year, occasionally.

For example, the event in Canada was in Feb, the event in Hungary, June, the event in Melbourne, December. Looks like the organizers have the freedom to choose dates.

Someone should probably check the IDSF web site, to find out for sure.

Okay, now I am confused also. Two of my coaches are competing at the World Professional Ten Dance in Canada sometime this Fall. I'm sure they would know when they are suppossed to compete. The one in Melbourne is Amateur, correct? So confused!

Holy cow! Why didn't somebody tell me to google including the terms amateur or professional?  I'm going into google shock!!! Where's SD when you need him? (In Boston, eating dinner with friends, I hope. )

Okay. The Melbourne ad mentions "Tattersall's World Ten Dance Championships." The other site mentioned IDSF specifically. Hmm. The fog is clearing a bit. Is there anybody here who can help us figur this out? (Um, at the risk of sounding even more ignorant, who or what is Tattersall?)

Laura

I have an answer to this quandry...the upcoming event in Melbourne is the IDSF World 10 Dance Championships, which is different from the event that Misa and Anastasia just won. Misa & Anastasia won the IDSF World Cup 10-Dance event...think "World Cup" in similar terms to skiing's "World Cup" events, in that they aren't the World Championships but that they are super-elite level events that draw the possible World Championship contenders.

And here are the results:

IDSF World Cup 10 Dance Results
Müvelödési és Sporthaz, Hungary

1. Misa Cigoj & Anastasia Novojilova, Slovenia
2. Andrej Mosejcuk & Susanne Miscenko, Germany
3. Andrea Ghgarelli & Sara Andracchio, Italy
4. Csaba Lászlo & Szilvia Szögi, Hungary
5. Martino Zanibellato & Michelle Abildtrup, Denmark
6. Martin Dvorak & Zuzana Silhanova, Czech Republic

Tattersalls is the sponsor I think.

World 10-Dance vs. World Cup 10-Dance.

Oh the challenges a simple three-letter word can create in the world of dance!

Thanks so much for your diligent help in clearing up the confusion. I'm still just as happy that they won, even if it wasn't exactly the same competition.

Okay, so how does it work? The World Cup 10-Dance is the qualifier for the World 10-Dance, both IDSF events? Is that right? This thread has been somewhat confusing for me.

Laura

No, the World Cup is just a series of high-level events. The qualifiers for the actual World Championships themselves are the National Championships for each member country.

Actually I think you might have to google for "IDSF" and "Professional"; I don't see the word "Amateur" anywhere on that world cup site (though I didn't read all the small print).

Thanks for all the googling!

Well George,

Misa & Anastasia won two 10 Dance World Championships but he (with his new partner Alexandria) finally won Snowball after 5 attempts. He can retire now! LOL!

Welcome to DF nonetheless!

I was there and it was really exciting. Loved the dancing and some great costumes. I was surprised though that in a final of that level there were many floorcraft issues.

Our committee chair approached him after about getting them as possible demonstrators for our local competition.

We heard a rumour they're living in California at the moment.

We all assume they'll be too expensive though. However, if you don't ask you don't know.
