There is another local dance teacher who has begun advertising his ballroom lessons by posting flyers on bulletin boards and handing things out at dances. His latest flyer is something like this:
DON'T
DANCE
UGLY
4 week series, every Wednesday
6:30 Cha Cha
7:30 Waltz
(then his name and contact information)
If you were to see such a flyer, what would you think?

Definitely a unique form of advertising, eye-catching. I've heard that phrase used before, though. Not enough though. I would want some sort of description, explanation, probably in smaller print if I was even going to contact this person. Unless I was desperate.

I would be turned off by it. That reminds me of hairdresses who try to keep you hooked by telling you what bad condition you hair is in. :x
How about dance beautifully? That could work, while being a lot more positive. The not-at-all-subtle implication of this poster is that, right, now, whoever you are, you dance ugly. Ew! Sounds pretty nasty to me.
That's just me, though.

My first thought is: people who are into waltz to the point they want to learn it might respond quicker to advertising that fits the personality of the dance. Waltz doesn't really match up with silly slogans.
Soliciting like that is allowed at dances?

Not crazy about it either.
How about:
Wanted: Two left feet looking for the right one.

Most of the dances around here (especially USABDA) have a table where people can leave flyers and such for their classes and events.

That was certainly the implication several of us took away from the flyer. The general consensus seems to be that this guy does a very good job of shooting himself in the foot...

I like it!
And at all the dances in our area there are places where people can leave fliers. In addition I've handed out fliers, usually to people whom I have a passing acquaintance with. This way it isn't obtrusive. :)

I'd probably put another sign right next to it that says:
"Uglily?"
i've been reading EATS, SHOOTS & LEAVES (with a picture of a panda on the cover), so my first thought was, only attractive people should dance?

Eats Shoots and Leaves is hilarious, isn't it? 8)
yeah. the fact that she was able to rant and has made a bestseller out of it is an appealing thought to boot.

Not sure if such a flyer would entice me  I have been told that I am 'not easy'
But, if I saw such a flyer, I would think that the aim of the course would be to give you, the dancer, more pose and little things like ladies doing dips in skirts, with their knees apart  or guys bending from the waist rather than at the knees (with the back straight) or making faces they didn't realise they were making, because they were concentrating so hard on the moves, and other stuff like that :D

amazing how one little comma can go from making a bad catch-phrase to an insult so easily!

That's why lawyers leave them out of legal documents
A comma in the wrong place can be disasterious when it comes to litigation later on :?

Actually, I work for a lawyer and he's a comma FREAK! Puts 'em in places I wouldn't even think about.

You've gotta read that book! It's a hoot. 8) And one point it makes is that extra commas are not necessarily better.

I'll go to half.com right now and fetch it! Too lazy to go to the library!

It would catch my eye- needs a good graphic to go with it though. What the saying- there is no such thing as bad publicity?
