Have any of you noticed a pattern either way? Meaning have you seen more people who know swing going into salsa, or more people who already know salsa going into swing. I was thinking about this tonight when I noticed many really good swing dancers who really don't know how to salsa. Then I started thinking about the past couple weeks and I've realized I have seen many swing dancers. This seems the trend for our area as I am very sure that there aren't many salsa dancers who have moved into swing. What about yours? Or perhaps there is another dance trend in your area, such as ballroom dancers moving to salsa dancing...

Since the Salsa community is bigger, most swing dancers know at least acouple of people who do Salsa. Salsa simply has more gravity and therefore attracts more people.

I wish it was the opposite though. :D

Gosh as if there were a clear trend.

I think over here the market conventional wisdom seems to be

Swing is up.
Salsa is holding steady but probably going up.
Ballroom is between holding and down.
AT is trying to go up.

I'm not necessarily talking about the numbers of people who do the various dances. Rather, I'm looking at how many people will move to learning a different dance after starting with one. For that I would split it up into categories such as ballroom, street latin, country, swing...broad strokes like these.

Purely anecdotal evidence...

Back in Denver, I knew a salsa promoter who recruited a lot of dancers from the Swing scene to come try out Salsa. Didn't know many salser@s who were trying Swing - only 3-4.

I've known more salser@s who have tried tango than swing, actually.

You know what? I can definitely see what you are saying tj!! As a person who has moved from salsa to AT I know how that happens. Definitely recommend AT to anyone out there. A wonderful dance.

AT is wonderful, but quite different from Lindy (and probably Salsa). I think AT and Lindy is a perfect combination.
