Dancing with my "dream dance partner" at SalsaMed! It's always exciting when you dance with someone for the first time and get a really good dance straight away, but this one stands out for some reason -- perhaps because I wasn't dancing particularly well that weekend? Everything about it was perfect for me -- the connection, the eye contact, the play with the music, the style of the dance (the leader's personal style, not LA vs. Cuban), the moves -- even me fluffing some of them (spins :oops:) couldn't spoil the experience.

Okay, in answer to your question Pygmalion, one of my most treasured dance experiences took place a few years ago. It was before I really became aware of the different style or politics within the salsa scene OR even that there is so much to read/discover. In other words, it was a time when I was still 'innocent' :lol: It was also my birthday weekend and that made it extra special :banana:

Some teachers/members of a dance company were here for a weekender which, incidentally, were great. We went out dancing on the Saturday night and I was dancing with one of the guys when another couple from the dance company joined in. We were doing all these fun moves, boy/girl kissing each other on the cheek, switching between the two guys, twirling around - this went on for about 2 or 3 songs? I semi-conciously :lol: was aware that one of the guys would call out something and as a foursome, we would 'do something' but I was too busy following and laughing to really care. When we stopped, people came up to me and said stuff along the lines of "wow, you guys looked great." etc etc I also danced with these two guys quite a lot and it was fantastic because as you know, dancing with a guy who leads well is, the best thing since Post-it Notes were invented. :lol:

I achieved such a dance high :shock: it resulted in my being very emotional on the Sunday morning because I was coming down from the high :oops: :lol:

I subsequently discovered/realised that we were dancing rueda :kitty:

One of the reasons why it is still special is because I have heard/seen a lot of drama subsequently take place in the salsa scene and these dancers, whilst still friends (I think) are no longer dancing together. :(

There are other times/moments when I have danced with guys who were more Charlie Chaplin than Fred Astaire wannabees and those times/moments also registered on my Richter scale :lol: because of the silliness and what we accomplished on the dancefloor at that particular moment in time. Then, there are times when I danced with certain [insert names of well known salsa teacher] that are amongst 'the best' but, there is something 'magical' about that 'foursome' that is a notch or two above the rest. :D

I think I've got just about enough holidays left to do another one this year... Some of my SalsaMed friends are talking about Salsa-UK's congress in September, so that's one option I am considering, but I'm open to suggestions, Pacion. :wink:

this one's easy for me, since i don't have many to pick from! But I'd have to say the first time I swing danced to an entire song without a major screw up in the middle (break position, tripping on someone behind me, losing the beat... )! this was last thursday night, and i'm still on a bit of a high. heehee. she claimed she didn't know how to dance, so i guess i learned that leading isn't really as hard as i thought it would be...
