Hello My Dancing Friends...

Hi!! Hope everybody is doing well...I know I have done at least one newsletter this month? The last one I found was from the beginning of June...oh well...I have been 'under the weather' lately. My back is not in good shape, but getting better...going on 3 weeks...that is too long!! Was suppose to do the Volunteer State Challenge (pro/am) but doesn't look like I am going to be able to dance. We are going anyway...we will still have FUN!! There was a whole lot going on this past week-end...I really did try to get it together to send something out...but I am here now!!

DANCE CLOTHES ETC. , located at 3599 Lenox Avenue in Jacksonville, is in process of redecorating and expecting shipment of NEW gowns in soon for another great sale! Will be mailing out flyers to everyone and also put in dance newsletter with all the info!!!! Please pass it on to friends by word of mouth. Southern Star Chapter has a new website: http://SouthernStarUsabda.org You can check out their latest competition results and pictures from July 29!! We were there...Bill and Sharon Wheat were there too and took 1st place in their Bronze Smooth Adult and Senior level!!! Congratulations!!!

Marcie Picard is working on a new web site: www.danceshoesplus.com. She will be back in Jacksonville for September's Mini Match, so drop her an email if you need something special!!

Daytona Chapter USABDA has cancelled their dance for this coming Saturday, July 26.

Boleros is hosting their Saturday night dance. Not sure about the FREE group classes, general dancing starts at 8:30. Cost is $7.00 per person. USABDA members cost is only $5, but you MUST show your National USABDA membership card (there is NO North Star card).
Kaluby's Dance Club is holding their Rising Star Graduation and Competition at their Baymeadows studio. Dinner is at Carraba's at the end of the Baymeadows at 9A. Florida Boppers present Back to the Beach XIII at Raddisson Riverwalk. Week-end passes are $40 if purchased before July 31, $45 afterwards. Hi Everybody!!

I'm back!! The USABDA dance cruise was a lot of FUN and we did LOTS of dancing!!! We had 16 hours of social dancing and 16 hours of group classes, a Jack and Jill and a Tea Dance...all on the ship, all in one week!!! We visited Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Costa Maya and Cozumel. More news and pictures on the cruise will be in the USABDA Amateur Dancer Magazine!! It was a great time and another will be planned...so stay tuned!!

Let's see what we got going on these days...taking me a little bit to get back into the swing of things...but here goes!!

Due to scheduling conflicts, North Star Chapter and Pharcyde Entertainment dance this Saturday has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 15.
There is a new dance on Thursday's and the Mary Singleton Senior Citizens Center.
Also on Thursdays there is Salsa lessons by Don Beckstrom at Leopard Lounge.
Crazy Horse on Phillips Highway is CLOSED. They are moving to a location on St. Johns Bluff...when it opens Debi says she will send me the schedule!

Charity Dance Marathon at Club Savoy has been cancelled, however there will be a benefit dance there on Saturday, November 8 starting at 8PM.

North Star Chapter Christmas Party this past Sunday was a fantastic time (if I do say so myself)!! If you missed...you missed a really good time!! We had 85 people, good food and LOTS of FUN!! Thank you all that attended and we look forward to seeing you next year!


Got some bad news...North Star Chapter and Pharcyde Entertainment dance that was scheduled for Saturday, December 13 has been cancelled. Due to a new 'Hip Hop' club opening up next to the Dance Conservatory, it has made it an unfavorable atmosphere for our dancers. Pharcyde Entertainment sent out a recent email announcing they will have a NEW home in a few short months in a better neighborhood and a brand new facility. I will keep you posted!!

Got some GOOD news...Boleros will be holding their Christmas dance on
Thursday, December 18 at 8:30. Since the facility is rented out every
week-end during the month of December, this was the only evening they could have it. I hope you will join them in celebrating the holidays on Thursday!!

Club Bimini is NOT open to the public on any Friday night during the month
of December. They are booked every Friday for private parties. We will see you in January, 2004!!

It is with much regret that the North Star Chapter and Pharcyde dance
scheduled for this coming Saturday, January 24 is being cancelled. Due to
the Teen Hip Hop club that is next door to the Dance Conservatory...they
have created an undesirable atmosphere at the facility. They have been
given notice that they need to move out, but have until the end of the
month. Until we are sure they have vacated the premises, we will have to
hold off on scheduling any dances. I will keep you posted. Sorry for any
inconvenience.

Tim Carter is teaching Swing & Hustle lessons on Friday night at Studebakers
in Orange Park. 8pm-9:30pm No cover charge, but pay $7 to Tim for lessons.

Hello!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Hope everybody is doing well and got new shoes for
Christmas!! If you missed the Intercontinental DanceSport Festival and
Dance Camp in Daytona you missed a great week!! Although not as big as 2
years ago...it was still a lot of FUN!!! Those kids have so much
energy...they made me feel young again...but wore me out!!

WOW...we got LOTS going on! I have been gathering lots of info for the

Dear Dance Enthusiasts,

We regret to inform you of some unfortunate news. Last Friday, the new manager, Mike Weis, at the South Pointe Marriott let us know us we would not be able to teach our free class and run our music at Club Bimini about 3 minutes before the class was to begin. He informed us that a convention was in town and they would have control of the music. We were also told we would not be able to have Club Bimini on Friday, February 20th.

We expressed to him that we could not run our event if they were going to be booking it at minimal notice for other events and we informed him that we had a contract with the previous management group of the Marriott. Previously, the only time our group would not host our Friday event there is the month of December.

As all of you know, we have been hosting Friday nights at Club Bimini for over a year now and all of you have helped make that possible. The new food and beverage manager, Leanne Peck, informed us that we had "ticked off the wrong person" and we could no longer hold our event there.

We sincerely apologize because we feel like this night was a great way for our dance community to get together on a weekly basis for FREE! We are currently looking for a new venue to host our Friday nights. This isn't the first time we've had to move our event and it may not be the last, but our goal is to provide a positive dance environment for all of you.

Hello ALL!!

Hope everyone is doing well and doing lots of dancing. Not a whole lot going on last week-end, but this week-end...things are looking up!!

The new Friday night Swing and Latin at Cuba Libre was a complete BUST!! We didn't make it, but from what I heard Leslie and Isaiah had about 40 people at the club and there was a smooth jazz band playing from 7-8:30. They did their group class then a solo guitar played the rest of the night and didn't let them play any of their music...so needless to say they won't be going back!!

There is NO USABDA dance in Daytona Valentines Day and no USABDA dance in February in Orlando

A 7000 Square Foot FABULOUS Dance Floor will be in store for every dancer at the upcoming Jekyll Island Convention center Valentine Tea Dance! Two dance-floors will be offered to the community for their dancing pleasure at the Sunday, February 8 Dance. The ballroom will open at 2:30 PM. One dance floor will be designated for advanced and moderate DanceSport(tm) movement and a second dance floor for practice and instruction.

Governor Sonny Perdue will send greetings and Georgia Department of Education will acknowledge the White Gloves & Blue Blazers Youth Program for its community efforts. And, honoring the graduates and community attendees will be award winning USABDA DanceSport(tm) competitors with the following exhibitions

Hello Dancers...

Hope all is well and you have been getting out and doing some dancing!! Got a few updates to what we got going on around town ... and ... the surrounding area ... looks like we got a LOT going on in April!!

Last weeks North Florida DanceSport Challenge was a FUN event!! There were on a few pro/am couples on the floor, but the ones that danced were GREAT!! We had a good amateur couple turnout and AAU kids were adorable!!!. This was a qualifying event for the Juniors Olympics and some of them will be attending the Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa in August!! Congrats to all who participated. As with most first time comps, it was small...but next year I think it will be bigger and better!! Some pictures have been uploaded to their website: http://www.northfloridadc.com If anybody has any pics that would like to share with them, please send them an email!!!

This week-end we have Kaluby's Grand Prix tomorrow at the Marriott Hotel in Southpoint at JTB and I95...Mr. and Mrs. K always do a great job with this event.

Well, If you have received our packet for the MidSummer Classic Xl (July 17, 2004) you have no doubt noticed a few discrepencies. In our enthusiam to get this information out to everyone, we didn't bother to proof read our packet. I will attempt to clear these little boo boo's up for you.

#1. The competition is July 17, 2004, not July 28, 2003.
#2. Like last year we offered a welcome party on Friday night. We will be doing that again this year. This a wonderful opportunity to see old friends and meet new ones. You will also have time to take a look at the ballroom. We will meet at the ballroom at 5:15 pm then leave to go to the Don Jose Cafe at 5:30. After dinner if you like you can come back to the ballroom to practice or just hang out. The ballroom will be open from 7-9. If you are planning to join us please RSVP to Scott and Sarah Coates at: sostar@tampabay.rr.com
#3. The American Smooth and International Standard events will be in the morning session and the Rhythm and Latin will be in the afternoon session.

Hello Dancers...

Oh remember I said some of friends were going to Indianapolis for a USABDA comp...they did GREAT!!! Bill and Sharon Wheat made it to the finals in all their heats...placing as high as 3rd in some of their heats...I am so proud of them!! Brady and Charlotte Davis took 1st in Novice and 3rd in Pre-Champ!!! Congratulations to you!!!

Heard Boleros comp was small, but a lot of FUN!! The show was fantastic (what do you expect from Jean Marc and France...nothing less). Unfortunately we were moving, so we were unable to attend. I heard next year it is going to be held at a hotel which should increase attendance, stay tuned more information will be forthcoming!!

Guess it's been a few weeks since I have sent out a newsletter...hope everybody is doing well and doing lots of dancing. As you can imagine...we have been pretty busy putting the house together...it is a never ending task...but has been a lot of FUN!!!
