Can anyone help fill me in on what exactly a mini-match is? I'm supposed to compete in one in a few months (which will be my very first comp ever), and just wanted an idea of what to expect, how it's different from other comps, what people wear, in general, etc. Thanks in advance...

It's a comp held at a local studio, often inviting other schools from the area to bring students to dance, though not always. It's an in-house event, and is supposed to be small, more friendly, and more toned-down than a bigger event. Entries are usually in the 200-600 range, with anywhere from 50 to 200 heats. Dress is usually more casual than a regular comp, though it can be as extravagant as the competitor wants usually. Perhaps you'll come back and thank me, instead of doing so in advance, but in the meantime, you're welcome in advance :-)

isn't mini match like a ballroom term for friendly match, usually organised between studios with a mutual judge or three judging?

Here in Melbourne haven't seen one for ages!!!
