I apologize in advance if this question has been brought up before, but
I’m trying to look for some Salsa On2 DVDs out there because I feel it’s good to have them in addition to the classes I’m taking. The problem is: I can’t find any. All the DVDs just say SALSA or MAMBO on them and I’ll bet they’re all On1 style. I find that odd since there’s really no right or wrong style. So why they all teach On1 and leave out On2 is beyond me.

So, are there any On2 DVDs out there that I could buy? I tried searching on Amazon, but I’m not getting any results when I add “On2” to my search words.

There's a basic on-2 DVD set by Eddie Torres available, called Salsa Night Club Style. They used to have it at Worldtone, but I got my copy from Descarga dot com. There are also used copies available thru amazon -- or you could just ask me to lend you mine...

PM me. We'll talk.

I wouldn't buy any Salsa DVD unless you are familiar with and like the instructor, or have a recommendation from someone you trust. I'd say Eddie Torres is a pretty safe bet though, for NY style salsa.

I would also point out: even if you find a video labeled "On2", there's a difference between NY style, and Mambo style On2. For the latter, just find videos labeled Mambo, as current American Style Mambo is pretty much just Salsa on 2.

Are you sure? My parents have a ”Learn How To Dance: Latin” video that they lent me. In the MAMBO portion of the video, they teach Salsa On1.

Again, as I said, don't go for just any video. Most of what you could buy on amazon, for example, is not very good at all.

If the video tells you to break on 1, it's not Mambo. It may be using a Mambo basic figure, but Mambo breaks on 2, not 1.

I haven't seen the Eddie Torres DVD's, and you might want to have someone familiar with the NY salsa seen verify, but that is probably a safe bet for you. If you are talking about actual Mambo, only resource I could point you to is the Dance Vision instructional videos by Ron Montez.

That being said, Sunday night I saw a professional American Rhythm competition, and the Mambo pretty much looked like the Salsa I'm familiar with, danced on 2 instead of 1.

If you are dancing on 1, the single best instructor I have run across is Salomon Rivera, I think you could find his videos on latinhips.
I also got a lot out of Josie Neglia's videos. That being said, I haven't tried to hunt down any Salsa instructional videos in nearly a decade.

Thanks!

I actually found a DVD called "Salsa and Mambo Basics: Level 1" with Tomas Guerrero. And to my surprise, when I popped in the DVD when I got home, they're teaching On2. I guess each instructor on these videos have their own style. Some prefer On2 and some like On1. I guess Eddie Torres and Tomas Guerrero both like On2. Interesting!

I watched the DVD. It was only 1 hour. It was only $10 and it was interesting to watching. Pretty much everything that was covered on the DVD was something I already know, but it added a few fancy moves, which I found interesting.
